So today I went to the local auto dismantling/recycling place and picked up a 2003 edge mesh grille insert thinking I could pop my current one out and snap the edge one in its place. Of course it didn't fit, but from what I've been reading and searching on this site it was my understanding both inserts are the same size are more or less interchangeable. So my question is, do i have to also have to buy the Edge grille assembly (part that goes under the lights) that holds the insert and then bolt that on to my XLT? I wanted to circumvent having to to get it painted or get lucky and find one that is my trucks color. Someone shed some light for this newbie! Thanks!

no, i dont think so at all. as long as your truck is 01-03 and the donor truck is 01-03, all you need is the grill itself. no surround should be necessary.

I am not 100% sure, but I am like 98% sure....just wait for someone else to confirm this....

The 01-03 EDGE grille and the painted peice that goes under the headlights is pretty much one unit. You could separate them if you had to, but IMO it's more trouble than it's worth. I would just get the whole unit and paint it to match my truck.

So a complete 01-03 EDGE grille assembly would fit w/o any problems on my xlt? it just wouldn't make sense for the edge grille insert to not fit into the xlt painted piece...unless the painted piece for the EDGE is bigger than the xlt's.
