Default Cb Radio Questions

Okay Im sure that I'm not the only one with questions about wiring, mounting, and installing a cb radio. Feel free to ask questions and if you can answer some questions. My question is how to wire a cb radio to fuse box and wire it to a 102" whip antenna? Pictures would help!

I can help with the wiring to the fuse box. Run your ground to a good ground (mines behind the kick panel on the drivers side) and for power you can tap into the fuse for your radio. That's how I did mine that way when the key is off, so is the CB. Done it this way on the last 3 trucks I've had with no issues.

Okay that sounds easy enough I'm smart enough to do that...Doesn't whip need to be hooked up to the cb though?

Yes, in order to use it. It depends on the style mount and connector the antenna has. I've seen them with the regular CB connector and I've seen them with a 2 wire type connector, which I have never messed with before.

That's just a spring, which I highly recommend since you're planning on mounting to the toolbox. If you would like, let me know where the antenna would be located once mounted and I'd be willing to build you a custom mount that would hold up to a 102"

To run the coax from the cb to the antenna look under the carpet at the pedals. You should see a grommet. Cut a slit big enough to run the coax (cable) through it. Screw the end inside the truck into the cb and the other end into the antenna. Routing the coax is on you as the path is usually preference. I have mine ziptied to several places along the frame.

I would get the ball mount since you are mounting to the toolbox. And also get a spring as well. My friend got the whip, coax, mount and spring for less than $80

The ball mount would be your best bet. But I'd use the bar type mount myself just a preference. The ball mount has the connection I'm unfamiliar with.

With a bar mount you screw the end of the coax on the connector just like the back of the CB. After installing I recommend taking your truck to your local CB shop and have your SWR set otherwise you may fry your radio if the SWRs are too high. Been there done that.
