Default new fender badge idea

So what do you think? Should I actually make a set like this or not even waste my time. I like the look of the superduty trucks, and I just ordered some cab roof lights, and I think these will look nicely. the best part will be that I can attach them for myself and then remove them and get new badges to install if I decided to sell the truck.

This is only a rough draft/template. I made it from a old plastic cutting board as plastic cuts and files pretty easily. If I actually do decide to make a set, it's going have to be out of something thinner so it's more flexible as the fender isn't perfectly straight. Also, keep in mind this is very rough, and everything is taped on the fender (the black piece behind the whole thing is a piece of paper colored with a marker), but I think it gives a decent idea of the final set.

Template:

Taped to my truck:

As far as finishing will go... I think I'm going to spray the badge chrome, and use black mesh behind it and paint the raised letter black. Or if i can find some chrome mesh, I can paint the whole thing black, use the chrome mesh and paint the raised letters chrome as well... also the positioning can't really change too much because I need to cover up the holes left by the Ranger badge.

Rafal

If you have any ideas to make this better/different let me know

Interesting idea, but I think if its sprayed chrome, it will look cheap.

I like it. It's certainly different and will be a WTF? moment to anyone who sees it. lol. But I do like the idea alot. But what I'd do is make that front angle more angled to better fit the fender flare. The 08+ superdutys are angled to compliment the flare. You're prototype right now looks out of place because it's not evenly spaced away from the flare. Hard to describe...hope I'm making sense.

Do like Shane said and make that front go with the flare and it will look killer

maybe you can find a place that does vinyl and have them do it in chrome&black then if you don't like it later pull out the hair dryer?

makes sense to me after looking again. If the badge follows the flare, it would look a lot better. OP, you can get plastic chromed, if you go through with this, it would look a LOT better than spraying it would.

thanks for the ideas guys! I'll make another one hopefully tomorrow and I'll post that up... this one took me less then an hour to make so it's not very time consuming or anything, now would it look better if I chromed the whole thing or make it black. and again if I do chrome it, the raised letters and the mesh will be black, and if I paint it black, I'll use chrome mesh and make the raised letters black as well... if I could photoshop chrome I would do it... but I can't

What would be really cool is getting it CNC'd using either stainless sheet or aluminum sheet. Maybe even cut out individual honeycombs in the material for the grilles, then paint the "grilles" and high gloss clear the whole thing. Lock in that shinyness to match the wheels, bumper. BUT....CNC ain't cheap and well, if you don't have a friend with access, this option shouldn't be considered. lol.

I like the idea, as long as it's done carefully. Attention to details like the one Shane mentioned, and solid materials and construction are always key, of course.

Not going to actually vent the fender, eh?

I think its a good idea, but you should get 06 badges and do it that way... that would look way better IMO

That would be ideal... I just thought of something...I will have to spray it black with flexible paint, because If I had it chromed, and I would had to bend it around the fender, the chrome would crack

No you don't, just have it shaped BEFORE you have it chromed, and I agree, use 06+ badges

Very good idea man! As mentioned just get the front curve to match the fender and it will improve drastically.
