Default Was hit and run :-/ Best way to fix or replace my bumper?

So I went to the grocery store Friday after work and come out to find my front bumper dented up. Whoever hit me must have done more than just back up into me because the dent is pretty bad and the force actually bent the edges of the bumper away from the truck (both sides)

No note with insurance information so I get to foot the bill on this people suck

I'm not sure the best way to go about this. Would it be possible to take off the bumper and bring it to a shop to see if they can knock the dent out and straighten it up? I don't mind a cosmetic blemish or scratches but I can't drive around with it the way it is...

How much is a new bumper? How hard is it to remove the bumper? I'm guessing I'd have to bring the new bumper to a shop to match the paint?

Also the tow hook was bent... Is this attached to the bumper or the frame? I really hope the frame wasn't bent. VERY glad it didn't deploy the airbags.

This is really bumming me out I'm hoping there's a solution that's easy on the wallet. Actually owe taxes this year so this additional expense is very unwelcome

dam that sucks. I'd think you could get the upper section from a pic and pull yard and save the bottom it don't look that damaged in the pics? maybe someone on here that had done a pre-runner style bumper has their old one laying around?

If you don't mind the scratches, you should be able to bend the bumper back fairly easily. Tow hooks are usually bolted to the frame, so that could also be bent back. Also, IIRC the airbags will not deploy if the vehicle is not running.

dude. i work in a body shop/service shop.. unless you do it yourself, and i mean find a front bumper from a junkyard. they're gonna fix the entire front bumper. and they'll both be new. they probably won't just fix it. they'll charge you for a front bumper and a lower valence. yeah. and the best part is that it'll probably be expensive.. it sucks dude.

and yeah. they won't be able just to beat it out. you would think so but it won't happen. it sucks. i know.

throw up a better picture of the damage to the valence! by the looks of it you could save it with a heat gun and some filler but would have to repaint it. As for the bumper get a chrome one from a junkyard and that way you don't need to worry about painting it. The steel behind the tow hook should be able to be pulled out as well if you have some means of doing it.

ditto.

valence appears to be 'runable' but it won't look as good as it used to be.

Time to start looking over at www.car-part.com and looking for a local bumper!

What's your insurance on something like this? Cover parking lot hit and runs?

Just look for some old lady with an indentation on her vehicle that looks like tow hook hit it.

Would you believe I'm still waiting for my insurance company (we both had the same insurance company, just different agents) to get back to me on the okay to fix my Focus. Apparently the York City Police Department isn't advanced enough to enter it's reports electronically and it's all done on paper. I'm not wasting $15 of my money to get a copy to State Farm. I'll let them handle it. Takes two weeks roughly. Insane with todays technology.

I was hit head on in my Cj-5 on 1/13/10- it took 2 weeks to get a police report and I still am crawling up the shithead's insurance agent's ass daily.

thanks for the info guys. i'm not really that technically inclined when it comes to vehicles and whatnot. can anyone explain how to get the bumper off and take apart these 2 pieces of the bumper? maybe there's something i can do to make it look a little better. If I can just bend the sides back in it would be okay but it looks retarded with the sides bent out.

Here are some better pictures, had to get my camera from home so it's nicer then the camera phone pics. Be aware I didn't resize them so they're going to be very big if you click on one to enlarge.

In the last pic you can see the two clips. I bet those would just snap back into place.
