Default Odd style or is it a frankenstein?

So,

I recently purchased the 2000 2wd Ranger Sport with a 3.0 v6 step side you see in my profile pic.

So far every other ranger I have seen of this year that is a sport, with a step side, is either a 4wd xlt or has a "sport" decal located closer to the side of the bed, and not the tailgate.

I have searched for some production numbers, but nothing specific...any thoughts? Is this some random bed on a non sport ranger? Love the look, just not sure...

Thanks!
Sixx

Previous owner probably took them off. Is there any signs that a sticker was there like brighter paint or more shiny paint?

That's weird lol. They should have just put 4.10s in every ranger. I'm suprised that's not extra though

I thought the sports were available in 2006-2011. The Edges ran from 2001-2005. Never heard of any other Sport unless it was something Ford only did under the radar for a couple of years.

Ford is sneaky. The build books are full of options letting you mix and match options. People factory stuff all the time, then not go thru with the order and then the dealer is stuck with a truck with an odd equipment list. I remember someone ordered an XLT with A/C delete, with a deposit, then just never came to pick it up. The dealer had to install an after market a/c at a loss to move the thing of the curb.

Believe it or not, I have seen a truck just like yours with the sport decal on the tailgate. It was a 99 2wd stepside owned by a guy in my fire company. I asked him about it once and he said that's how it rolled off the lot and that there were a few others like it at the time too.

Sent from between the spare tire and the evap canister.

Thanks everyone!

So far I haven't seen any like mine, but it's good to know they are out there.

Someone else had mentioned to me about the options at the dealership. I thought that too, considering all the different rangers I have seen so far.

I want to do a lot to make it custom, but since this is kind of an odd ball, I sort of want to keep it stock.

Thanks for the feedback SR2K...

My '96 was an XLT without AC.
I figure that was why it was the last new '96 XLT in local dealer inventory in Feb. '97 when I bought it.
