Roof leaks, need help!!! Anyone else have this problem?

Hey Guys,

I have a 1998 Mazda B2500 (Ford Ranger) Extra Cab w/sliding rear windown. Every single time it rains, my roof leaks. I have tried everything I can think of to fix this with no help. I used black RTV Silicone on the complete outside edge of the rear window, the complete outside edge of the sliding window, the complete edge of the brake light on top of the cab, and even on the complete in the cab edge of the sliding window.

I have no idea where the water is getting in through. When you are in the truck, the whole interior edge above the rear window is soaked, but just the edge of it. Not on the ceiling of the truck. It isn't a rust bucket, it's in pretty decent shape, but this is driving me nuts!

The only thing I can think of is the edges of the roof on the outside, where the little "rain groove" is. I'm about to get the whole exterior of the truck rhino lined and forget about it, lol.

only thing i could think of is the water is getting in threw the window where it slides but im not sure. grab a hose and a buddy and have then wash the window and you go inside wile there doing it and watch were it is coming in

It might also pay to have someone remove the windown and reinstall it?

Could be a twisted rubber inside the seam where you can't see it.

Most common problem is the 3rd brake light light, pull it off and reseal it.

my truck leaks to on the passenger side where the door seal meets the truck body. i have looked at it and i cant find anything wrong with it but it only does it when i go through a car wash and the power washers spray directly on top of it and it only lets a drop or 2 through. it doesnt leak when it rains so i dont care haha

mine leaked through the 3rd brake light, i just pulled it off, and siliconed it, then when i got my LED light, i didn't silicon it cause it was a brand new light, and new seal, but its rained the other day and it leaked again, so i just resealed it and it stopped, so i would double check that light, cause mine leaked exactly like you said, right above the rear window.

Well, like I said, I have already resealed the 3rd brake light, the complete edge of the rear window, and the complete sliding window (It doesn't open anymore). I tell ya', it's damn frustrating! I'm just glad I have my car to drive as well.

Thanks for the input guys. I am going to take a look at the door seal, and the roof drains. I think by the time I am done, my whole truck is going to be covered in silicone! Probably be able to float on water after, haha.

Well I get water on my driver side floor. I can't figure out where it's coming from either unless it's something behind the firewall. I've caulked all around the grooves on the roof, the front winshield. But don't know.

I had a similar problem, water ran from the top of the passenger side into the back passenger corner of the interior and dripped down onto my speaker and onto the floor. Half of the material above my back window was wet when it rained so I first thought it was my back window. What I did to "fix" it is just use black electrical tape and put at the top of the door, above the rubber part. It hasn't leaked since so that did the trick for me. What I originally thought was the back window apparently was just a gap in the way the top corner piece is made, is what im assuming it is. The water corroded my speaker and made my floor wet under the passenger seat. I felt with my fingers along the top of the truck under the plastic material and noticed that it was wet "uphill", as in it seemed to follow gravity from where I recently put the electrical tape.. so yeah. Give it a shot if it sounds like the same problem you are dealing with.

I had the same problem. Tons of water coming in. It was the brake light. I sealed around the lens and my problem went away. At first I thought it was the sliding window or the window molding but it wasn't.

I had the same problem with the thrid brake light, put in a new LED light and the problem went away for a while but now its back so time to reseal it. It runs down some channel in the roof and looks like its coming from the drivers side back corner on mine but its from the light.

I had the same probelm. my headliner would get wet so i resealed my 3rd break light with silicone and it doesnt leak at all anymore.

Same thing here 3rd brake light but in an f150 it did not pour in on me and I had leather seats so I just dealt with it.

I did read somewhere else that there are screws that hold the window in place behind the head liner and once those are tightened down it was fixed. Might not be the case for you but it might be worth pullin the head liner down and cranking on them....
