Sliding Rear Window Whistle / Fogging on Outside in Rain
Hello
I have a '93 reg cab with a sliding rear window. If I turn on the vents / fan there's a loud whistle coming from the center strip where the two sliding windows meet (the center strip where the lock is). The higher I turn up the fan, the louder the whistle. If I close the vents and put it on MAX AC the whistle stops.
I put some tape on the center strip and this stopped the whistling, but now when it rains the two center panes fog up on the outside, NOT the inside. It's bugging me because it gets hard to see out of the rear-view mirror and rain can be bad enough on it's own.
I've searched the forums and have seen some people complain about fog on the inside during rain, but mine is on the outside. I know it's a '93 model, but surely this didn't happen when it was new (just got it used private seller).
Any ideas on what the problem could be, or tips on how to prevent the fogging on the outside of the sliding rear window?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Its called humidity. Cold on the inside and warm on the outside...
Its like taking a cold drink outside in the heat and it sweats. As for the whistle.. it is air being blown through a tiny open crack in your window seal.
Take back window out by unscrewing the 8 nuts that hold it in
(3 on top, 3 on bottom and 1 on each side.)
Push window out gently.
Remove old seal
Clean your surfaces
Put new seal on and bolt window back on.

Re: Sliding Rear Window Whistle / Fogging on Outside in Rain
Thanks for your reply Stinkbaitj, but I have a couple of questions.
You say the fogging is humidity, and while that may be, why is it only on the two sliding rear windows, and not every window? As for the whistle, taping up the center strip (where the two window panes meet) stopped the whistle. I think the two issues are related.
Doesn't the "seal" you speak of go around the entire outside of the rear window? If that's what you're talking about, how would that cure the whistle coming from in between the two sliding window panes (when closed and in locked position)? The outside seal of the window is fine, it's the two sliding window panes not being locked together closely enough. The question is, what to do about it, other than getting a complete new rear window? Or did the '93 Rangers have this whistle brand new from the factory?

Apologies I misread lol
I have a 93 and mine doesn't whistle so I'm not too sure why yours is. I would think the seal where the two meet that keep it air tight has dried up and cracks on ya. Lemme go look at my truck real quick...
*back*
Ok yeah on my I have to fuzzy strips that keep it air tight.
Yours might have cracks on them. Check them out and get back with me.
As for the fog. Could be your vents pointed or directed towards them.

Re: Sliding Rear Window Whistle / Fogging on Outside in Rain
I guess it is the fuzzy strips that are worn. Any idea on what to do for this? Would it be easier to get a whole new rear window or just try to find some fuzzy strips to glue on the ends of the window panes?

Thanks. I've been researching myself and haven't found anything except a few other posts in other forums of people asking where to get the "fuzzy strips". No one seems to know where to get these things. One post I saw read that Ford doesn't even sell these things alone. You have to buy a whole new window.
I've got the whistling fixed temporarily, but the fog really bothers me. It fogs up even if the vents are pointed away from the rear window.

Thanks again. That's one of those completely obvious things you slap yourself about and wonder why you didn't think of that.
Googled it and found some adhesive felt stripping. I guess I'll tear of the old stripping and stick on the new and see how it goes.

Re: Sliding Rear Window Whistle / Fogging on Outside in Rain
The rear window fogging can be caused by the cooler air circulating in the bed while driving. Or the window being cooled by the A/C blowing on it and it acting like a glass with a cold drink in it. These are only guesses.
