Hi folks,
Just wanted to contribute a little here.
I was out shopping today specifically for a tonneau cover for my 2011 Ranger XLT w 6' bed.
I had an Extang single piece vinyl on my previous Ranger. It lasted 12 years and still looked good. The mounting system was a bit of a hassle, especially in the cold, but with careful planning around sunshine cycles you could eventually get it on.
Also, when off the truck it was always a hassle to find someplace to hang it/drape it. A motorcycle turns out to be a good holder for the single piece.
So I am somewhat partial to them because of the durability. One dealer had their tri-fold vinyl on display. I really liked to the looks of it and the tri-fold seems to have solved the cold weather install issues of the previous one piece design and should make temporary storage much less of a hassle.
I went to a 2nd dealer (Yankee Custom, several outlets up here in the Northeast US) and they had the Extang and next to it they had Rugged Cover. Rugged Cover seemed to outmatch the Extang on a couple of features including 4 layers of stitching around the outside edge (vs 2 on the Extang), a lever based quick release system (Extang was some sort of spring loaded system) and a mini-LED light at the tailgate end.
Two other advantages was the dealer had one in stock to fit my truck and it was approximately $20 cheaper than the Extang.
Their display proudly indicated a Owosso, Mi address. So, I sprang for it.
I did not notice until I got it home that it was made in China. Dammit.
I spent some time on their website and it does appear that they are legimately a US based company and not just a distribution front for a Chinese mfg. so I will probably keep it.
I'll post some updates as to how it installs and performs. Just waiting for the sun to go down a bit so I can wash the truck before putting it on.
These are both priced right around $400.
