Alright, instead of installing it on the bumper, what if I installed a 4' Firestik on the hood? Not sure which side though. I am new to this but have been trying to research about it. There is a lot of information out there and some of it seems to conflict each other. Some say bumper is fine while others say nothing but TDC on the roof will work. I don't want my truck to look like an RC car, lol.

If I used the Alon mount (home made) would it still be an issue?

I don't want to mount it on the roof, but wouldn't be too averse to hood mounting it.

Top dead center is optimum for any antenna. It just isn't always practical. Any other location has trade-offs. Mounting it to one side of the vehicle cuts down on your propagation to that side since you have no ground plane. But there is no way around that. The hood would be a better option than next to the aluminum cap.

i got a 3' firestick with a midland cb. mounted it on the driver side of the hood. works great. depending on the weather and the terrain i can get about 40 miles on a great day for it. i had dual 3' firesticks mounted on my tool box both running to my cb, i got shitty reception. couldnt get more than 3 miles out of it. personally duals is too much for a small vehicle like a ranger, they interfere with each other. top of the roof is usually the best cause really your supposed to have it up above the truck as high as you can. but too high is too much.

Ok, i've got a questing wiring the coax cables. I started from the cab (through the grommet at the driver's feet) and am going to the tool box with 2 coax cables, one cb, one am/fm. What is the best route to get to the front of the bed?
i've heard to avoid the fuel pump (which is on the driver's side) with my coax for the cb, because of interference. Will the fuel pump cause interference on the coax for the am/fm too?

If I do have to run the coax cables over to the passenger side and then back to the bed, how do I wire it?

Will the exhaust melt the coax cable if it runs over it?

How to keep the coax out of the drive shaft?
