Bed liner question
So i have been reading the other threads about bed liners and understand that everyone likes spray in bed liners. How much do the spray liners cost? is there a way to do the liner yourself? I can see how the rust happens with the drop in liners so i dont' want one of those..

you can go rhino, linex, etc
i, and many others are going to suggest Line x (because we have it lol)
my spray in over the rails liner cost me 450 and its been nearly two years and it still hasnt faded cracked chipped etc.
you can buy do it yourself kits, theres a how to for one in the how to section done by Korey, but its time consuming and you wont have a lifetime gaurentee on the quality like the pro sprayed in liners do

i did my bed myself in the garage cost me about $80 for the herculiner from autozone. but let me suggest using sand paper instead of the brilo pad thing they give you in the kit. but remember your just wanting to take the clear coat off the bed not all the paint. took me about 4 hours to do it very simple and easy

Like I want the bed liner just for light use. I even have a truxedo cover on it, im primarly doing this for the protection and anti-rust. I noticed my bed doesn't look like it was painted yesterday, its hard to describe, its not like flaking off but i guess i just want the liner for the sealing properties.

Ok so im pretty sure im goin to do it by myself. I can't afford 450 to have it professionally done. I see theres a few kinds/brands of Bed liner paint out there. What is the best and what gets the best results? any tips? I see some kinds come in like a spray paint can, and i saw the herculiner kind in the quart, and i see duplicolor in the gallon. Aprox how much of this stuff am i going to need also?

tip #1 do a very good job on the prep.
this is where you ll lose it all if not done in a professional manor. ie take your time and prep it good!
#2 do it in coats like to or three. dont rush and try to cover in one coat!!!
#3 and most important is stand back and drink mass amounts of beer to get the courage up to maybe f&%$ up your truck bed!
#4 get sh!t faced and get to work!! good luck and ill have a beer and a drink off the Ole bottle for ya!!!

My mom got me the Herculiner kit from Autozone for Christmas. I haven't gotten to apply it yet, but I hope to soon.
And yes, if you have the 6' bed, you'll need only a gallon of the liner.

I would stear clear of the roll ons if possible never come out as thick but good prep will keep them stuck. Anyone can go get a pro kit like upull rapter(one of my favorites) comes with a gun for around 120 to 150 kit not hard to spray at all its just about keeping it even. I spray over the rail bed liners in Jax for 300 and tintables for 375

I did the roll herculiner on my truck about 6 months ago paid $80 for it.... spent about 5 hours prepping on a friday night, cleaned everything up again saturday morning, and did it saturday (ended up doing 3 thin coats instead of 1 thin and 1 thick like the instructions say). Went back the next week and touched up a couple spots...
since then I've been hauling detailing power equipment (power washer, generators, water tank, etc.) which are removed and put back in. I have hauled rocks for my dad, hauled a couple tool boxes quite a few times for friends, moved people about 20 times, and it still looks brand new... I think it's all in the prep work.
It's not thick like some one states above maybe 1/8th" thick total, but it's been fine since day one...

^^^^ it's true, I have seen some DYI peel after a couple months of use, the main problem is that if you buy the herculiner kit, it comes with a green scotch pad (has about the same abrasiveness as a dish washing pad), so you really need to get some sand paper, or a hand sander for this stuff....
