Can this be done for a 1997 ford ranger with stock headlights?

no. because all of the inside of your headlight is the reflector.
Basically, any stock Ranger headlight from 1983-2000 cannot be "blacked out"
Unless you like all blalck headlights and don't want to see where you are going.

one question I have, for those who have done the headlight mod:
How come nobody ever paints the headlight bulb "shroud" (cup over the bulb) black? I think it would look cool.

I was curious to see the light pattern on those, bought some off eBay and the pattern was horrible, light was scattered unevenly, couldn't see shit
