i ordered both my kits from a seller on ebay named Autoluminate, shanes gotten several kits from the same guy aswell. the new slim ballasts are cool (my new kit got here yesterday) two day shipping ftw!

What made you decide to get a new kit? Fogs?

not exactly. my moms been dropping subtle hints about wanting HID's for the last couple months, and i figured why not get her a 6k kit? plus i drive her car frequently at night (if im with her i end up driving) and going from the 8k's in my truck to the standard bulbs in hers, it looks to me like her lights are barely on or close to burnt out. so its win win lol

I know it's a threadbump, but this chart/pic is ALOT more accurate to the product you'll actually get and it's results.

I've had 3000k, 4300k, 6000k, 12000k, and 30000k. And as said above, anything over 6000k is just doing it for the color. Had a State Patrol tell me my 6000k's are too white, they're blue compared to white which actually is yellow(halogens). lol. I run 6000k's in the summer and 4300k's in the winter. The bright white w/ blue tint hurts the eyes when it bounces off snow and kinda sucks in fog. Thats when I turn off the heads and run just the 3000k(yellow) fogs.

Check out eBay store: Autoluminate. Slim ballasts are bad ass! And their kits are cheap, quality, and have ran on my truck for the last 3 years without any real issues at all. Or check out DDM kits or VVME(?) kits.

How do you have the fogs mounted? Any pics? I've contemplated getting HID in the fogs but I can't envision a way to securely mount them that will hold up while offroading.

Stock fogs brother....











A sorta old school foglight protection mod is making a sheetmetal gaurd on the backside of it that mounts using existing foglight mounting hardware. This is talkin' like R-F in '04 or even Gen-Edge in '02 sorta old school mod here. Not much for pics left anymore of it, but I remember people doing it. Then that Laminix stuff on the lense to help with cracking glass. But mine, I don't have any problems...they're still the stock 01 factory housings that came on it in 01. Of course, my terrains a little different and well, those fogs are about a foot higher than yours are. LOL!

The 5000k bulb is almost pure white. if you want a little bit of blue i say go with the 6000k. But you will be happy with the the brightness out both of them. As far as mounting the ballast to the frame for fog lights, just put the ballast on top of the fame and use two hose clamps to hold it on the fame. That's how my buddy did it quick and easy. They've never moved.

I had them 3m stickied taped to the header panel behind the grille....actually they're still sticky taped behind the grille on the header panel. Only pics I got showing them...






I now have slim ballasts as one of those big ballasts lasted 2 years getting abused in that location. I'm really quite satisfied with how long they lasted there. Rain, sleet, snow, ice, hail, washing the truck....all direct wetness shot at 'em. The new ballasts are mounted on the thin front to back side of the header panel...more safe and dry location than before.

I've wheeled it pretty hard with them mounted there and havent had any issues. Of course my wheeling isn't a speed challenge on a trail though. I prepped both surfaces for the sticky using a alcohol prep wipe, let dry, then stuck on.
