What does this do? and is it important?
So the other day, this line snapped, and is this anything important, or can it slide? Its the black rod sticking out.

It is on the front axle, I will post a picture of the area where its at asap.
---------- Here is the front axle, which it is located. (the black rod sticking out is what I need to know if its important, and yes I know the power steering line is broken, Im waiting to get it fixed)  Here is a better picture of the black rod

Just remembered, when this line got pulled (the black rod sticking out), The engine smoked a little bit, but hasn't since Ive restarted the truck.
