3" is the highest body lift you can get you could run a 33" tire on a 15" rim

gas mileage will suck because you wont be geared right for the larger tire

Is the truck your getting 4x4 or 2wd? If your just after the pre-runner look just get some pre-runner front fenders.

31" is the biggest tire you can fit under it with a bodylift. You mentioned you want it to look "prerunner". I suggest getting 3.5" lift spindles for the front and either an AAL(Add-a-leaf) or a Chevy drop shackle for the rear to lift the truck up some. You can run about a max of 32" tire with that setup. If you do fiberglass fenders, you can run 33's.

I suggest getting either Crager Soft 8 wheels or a Daytona style wheel(aka nascar looking wheels). Both are black and steel and both are very reasonably price at around $50 a piece. I suggest a 15x8.

Engine? Trans? Gear ratio?

I'm going to assume since it's an XL, it's got a 2.3 and a 5spd manual and 3.73's. You'll want to regear it for anything bigger than stock. lol. Find yourself a 4.10 axle and throw it in. OR...gear swap it to 4.30 or 4.56 for 32's..... You'll see about the same mileage you see now if you gear swap the truck for the larger tires.

Of course...all I typed could be absolutely useless if you've got a different engine and gear ratio.

As mentioned, your best bet for what you want to do would be 15's.

I don't think my truck is lifted but my gas mileage seems to really suck... (17-18mpg highway)

could bigger tires without a lift also cause crappy gas mileage if not geared right?

Factory Rims/Tires
P235/75R15SL TIRES
15x7.OJ RIMS

What's on the truck now (put on by previous owner)
31x10.5R15 TIRES
American Racing Polished Aluminum RIMS

Not sure the size of the rims but I'm guessing they're 15x8 from that link posted about the maximum tire size chart
