Fog Light Relay mod--- I have no relay o.O
So I found this article while browsing the forums : http://www.generation-edge.info/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1644
I have the problem when turning my high beams on and the fog lights go off and wanted to follow that guide on modding the relay to allow both high beams and fog lights.
I open my hood, open the panel, check for relay # 50 and there's nothing there........ What gives? Is it a different relay in the 01 edge?

Put your hand on the relays and flick the high beams on and off. You'll feel the relay clicking.

You know....I followed that same how-to from the original generation-edge.com probably 5 years ago. I had the same problem. So....I opened the door, turned on the lights w/ fogs, clicked the highbeams on and off, found the relay, then got to work.

That is done by design from Ford. I think it has something to do with the angle of the beams, not positive, though.
Either way, I think it's silly. It should be up to the driver what lights they want on, and when.

heard something along the same lines, some people who have aftermartket driving lights use them at the same time as their high beams, some states only allow you to have four lights on facing forward

I remember a thread on TRS that went into detail about it. I'll try to find it.

In my state, which is stupid, claims theres a ordinance that fog lights are to be treated just as high beams, yet why are these trucks wired in a way that kills the fog lights when the high beams are on? Makes no sense at all. I got a funny story from when I got pulled over for that...but that story is for another time. Oh...and if you're headlights are too white, according to OSP, they are blue. Which is BS.
Thanks Jay. If you can find it, i'd love to read it.

odd, but okay... high beams are treated the way they are, because they can temporarily blind oncoming traffic, possibly causing crashes

Actually, it does make sense. The whole point of fog lights is to allow the driver to see better in foggy conditions, and not just to look cool, sporty, or whatever. When installed and aimed properly, fog lights should illuminate at and under the "low beam" level, allowing the driver to see the road in front of the vehicle better in foggy conditions.
In these same foggy conditions, the high beams will turn the fog into a glaring wall of white, possibly blinding the driver of the vehicle. So, given that there is no useful situation in which someone would want (or need) to operate both the high beams and the fog lights simultaneously, they are often wired at the factory so that one cancels the other out.

...if you want your paint to be a "brighter" white, you add a few drops of blue to it. This is true for house paint as well as automotive paint.

All I'm saying is apparently, Oregon State Police/Oregon Vehicle Code has something against factory equipped foglights being on with the low beams....or that was the excuse I was given for pulling me over. My truck is 100% legal, but it's tettering on the edge of legality. I think it's funny when I get pulled over and the LEO pulls out a tape measure to the truck. I'm used to being pulled over for equipment and not speeding.
My headlights are white. Compared to the "white" aka yellow halogens on the road, my lights look blue.
My stuff is aimed properly...for the headlights being 6' off the ground or something. lol.
Thanks for imforming me the driving conditions through fog...I've only been driving through it for 7 years. lol.

I found the thread I was thinking of.
If you can stomach all the ranting that AllanD was doing, he makes some valid points.
