FYI. my "friend" on the baltimore City PD didn't know but he said he would find out for me.
I'm stilling waiting for a response from my other "friend" on the Baltimore county PD. I had to send a message to his wife to ask, so hopefully I'll find out something.

I don't think there's any real written laws on it...other than a certain distance it must be visible from. It's more of a judgement call by the officer on duty, I'd think.

Those I linked go WAY too far IMO. I've seen far far too many shaded tails locally and online that literally, scare the shit out of me. You can barely see the brake lights during the day.

You know what's just right and what's just too much. Be smart about it.

If you go dark on the night shade you should consider the L1224R bulb swap
That.

My friend's in baltimore haven't responded yet, but from browsing around the internet it seems that tinting headlights, and tailights is clearly illegal.

Right. There's a reason why you can't buy headlights/tail lights - stock or aftermarket - tinted that are DOT approved. Why? Not legal!

Lights are supposed to light things.

in N.C. you can have em tinted just not completely blackout to where you cant see, a good friend of mine is obsessed with blackin everything on his truck out... windows, lights, rims, exhaust tips, grill.. haha everything..... he sprayed his tail lights so dark you could barely see light and his headlight were pretty dark as well...

he got stopped for it and the officer said just get it to were you can see the light from at least 40-45 yards behind him but as far as the lense he didnt car..... we put HIDs in the front and sanded a lil of the paint, now its bright as ever... and we sanded the tails a lil and he found some brighter bulbs or something now its fine...

but i never thought about tinting the tail lights.... yall just saved me 300 bucks.. i was about to order my smoked led tails but now i think ill just got get some tint
