Default How do you replace the front parking brake cable?

My old cable snapped right in the middle. I went and bought another one but I can't seem to get the rest of the cable out from inside my cab by my pedal. How do you do it? Pictures help a lot.

You'll need to unbolt the emergency brake pedal and pull the cable out that way. That is how the plug on the old and new ones are designed to go in from the cab and out. You may need to cut the plug on the old one up some to do it.

I had a hell of a time getting the new cable connected to the pedal mechanism but I finally got it. You just have to be more stubborn than the part. Sorry, no pictures for you though.

Well the cable that actually moves the brake came out but there is still that little metal thing that it came out of that I believe I need to replace because my new one has the same thing.. I'll take pictures in the morning for a better explanation of what I'm talking about.

If anything like my 98 Ranger, its easier if you have taken the e brake assembly out from inside the truck. You have to pull the emergency brake release handle and at the same time pull the cable the other way. What you are doing is pulling the cable the opposite way to over slack it. After you do this, you need to put a pin in the small holes that have lined up together. This keeps the spring from recoiling. When done, you will see a small window that you can get your cable out. DO NOT PULL THE PIN UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE PUT THE NEW CABLE IN.

Sorry I didn't get to taking pictures yesterday, maybe today. Well you see, I didn't even have a brake cable. It's gone except for this one piece that goes through the firewall and I can't seem to get it out. Hopefully I can take pictures soon to show you what I'm talking about.

If it has a rubber plug like mine did, you will need to cut chunks of the plug out before you can get the cable out.
