POR-15 questions.....

Hey guys,
Sorry I haven't been on here as much here recently, but I've been battling a severe head cold and allgeries pretty bad while trying to find parts for my upcoming projects. I did get to see a live demonstration of POR-15. Has anyone used this stuff before and if so what were your results?

POR-15 is supposed to stop rust COMPLETELY!

I TOO have seen that demonstration.
It looked Too-Good-To-Be-True ,but othres i spoke with say it works!

I coated the underside of my truck with it, the stuff is legit. Follow the prep instructions and nothing short of a grinder will take it off the metal once it cures. Oh yeah, do not get it on your skin, there is not a solvent out there that will get it off your skin that wont take your skin with it, i found this out the hard way. lol

It is pretty good stuff. I would recommend it. As Pat said dont get it on your skin.

im por 15'ing my truck this week, my buddy did it at work to his lifted jeep,(i also work at a car parts store,getting it cheap), but anyways he loves it and u can be the shit out of it and it will be just fine, it really is amazing, my bud does a ton of off roading and he smashed it, scraped it, covered it in mud, etc and jus a quick rinsed and its clean and looks like the day he put it on.

the key to the success is doing it right, and ONLY using the prep stuff it comes with. that is key. i saw a guy come into work complaining that it failed miserably and chipped and that was because he used different prep stuff.

overall the stuff truly is amazing, just follow the steps and it works forever because of its nonporous material. good shit, never heard a bad review when done right(and its not hard to do right either). ill post picks after i do mine.

Thanks guys. After seeing the stuff the guy used at the live demo before he even got there and examining all of the materials there, I could tell it wasn't rigged which was kool. He did give us a catalog of what they have to offer and there's alot of stuff in there that I want. They even have different colors of it now, one of them is the exact same color of the blue found in Ford's blue oval eblems which is kool. So I'll need some gloves and disposable welding sleeves to keep this off of my skin. I tend to be a little on the messy side at times, L.O.L.

Thanks man. I'll be checking out the link you gave me. I am feeling alot better now that's for sure. That head cold in combination with my allergies would drain you in no time, plus me looking and chasing parts on a frequent and daily basis didn't help at all.

POR-15 was recommended to me by an auto body instructor where I went to college. He used it on his two Corvettes that he owns, as well as his truck. It has done awesome to protect his vehicles even in the harshest of Montana winters. I will be doing this to my truck as well here over the summer. It is a hell of a product, and he couldn't speak more highly of it. He is a nationally accreddited body specialist, so I definately am listening to what he said. It is an easy product to use. He suggested that when storing, use some sort of plastic wrap over the top of the can before putting the lid back on, or it will seal itself to the can.

Kool guys. Let me know what type of results you get from this stuff. I found myself interested in the black chassis coat and the Ford corporate blue engine enamel. I also like the clear top coat that they offer too. It's the same color of blue that is found in the Ford blue oval emblems. That stripper that they have is some pretty killer stuff.

i've got a buddy that POR'd the new suspension on his truck, as well as the tube work in the bed and the front bumper. he did his grey. it's only been a few months, and it's started to change colors due to exposure to sunlight. it how has a slight tint of green to it. you could always shoot over it with spray paint i suppose.

yeah it reads right in the product description that POR is intended as a base coat and will fade over time unless painted with a top coat.

They've got a clear top coat for their products out now that's made specifically for protecting the base coating from sunlight and harmful UV rays. That is and has always been on mind concerning this product. I figured an everyday clear coat used in auto body would do the trick to help prevent fading, but I see that they have a clear top coat made for protecting the product from direct sunlight out now that can be applied the same way POR-15 is applied. I figure that should help out a great deal.

Yeah if you use one of their products like 'ChassisCoat' (Semi-Gloss Black) or 'Blackcote' (Gloss Black) over the POR-15 base coat you will be just fine.

The product doesn't last long once the container is exposed to air. Because of this, I always buy the smaller 4oz cans so once I open it...I try to use it all. The website says the 4oz version will cover about 12 square feet.

I find I waste less that way even though it costs slightly more to buy it in the smaller containers.
