Repair holes in roof
Hi, this is more of a general exterior question, but I really need some help. I have a '90 ranger that previously had a warning light mounted on the top, something like this:
When I got the car, the light didn't work, and it was pretty ugly (had it worked, I may have left it on, people always thought I was a cop and gave me the right of way). I removed it, but now have four giant holes in the top of my car. I was thinking that I could just fill them in with bondo, but when I went down to the auto repair store, the guy said that the holes may be too big. I have very little experience, but don't have the cash to take it to a garage. I was hoping that you could give me a little advice.

Re: Repair holes in roof
NEVER FILL HOLES WITH BONDO! it will not last. 6 months and you'll have holes in your roof again. why do a job 2 times incorrectly when you can do it the right way the first time? get them welded up. you may pay more this time, but you won't be paying to have it fixed again in 6 months.
the other option would be to get some 3m metal to metal panel bond and glue another piece of metal to the inside. but you'll probably spend just about as much in the epoxy and applicator as getting it welded. if you pull your headliner out, i doubt a body shop would charge much to weld it, then you can do the body filler to get it smooth and then you can do some spray primer or whatever else you decide to do.

Re: Repair holes in roof
Dont listen to that guy. Have the holes welded and filled. You could weld small plates on the underside and fill them in with bondo after you get a good patch. Like my emblem holes, I welded small plates on the inside of the fender and used a little bondo to smooth it out.

Re: Repair holes in roof
I've seen police cars that has the light bar removed.
They just install plastic plugs
Amazing that they don't leak!
I would agree to have plates welded to cover the holes, than sand and paint
