Brian,
If you plan on keeping the truck for a long time, I suggest you sand it down to the metal and prime it as you go to protect from rust.
Get the body as smooth as you can, shoot it with a sand-able primer and then take it to a local shop.
I think it is safe to assume that the orange peel and other "problems" go into the color coat.

If you are going to wheel it hard and bust brush, just leave it be.

Both of my Blazers got scratched and gouged on a regular basis in the brush.
I dug around on some pretty tough trails because the paint and body didn't concern me.

this thread is about as easy to understand as quantum physics..

so after reading all of this, was the paint job 2450? Or is there a lot of info missing from the start of your post? For that price should be a damn near perfect paint job...I've seen way better for less

If the OP did not represent the price (which seems like that's the case??) and had a lot of work done, to which part of the work was a paint job.....

Ya know what...it does not matter either way....

you got robbed.....this is why I only deal with "real" paint shops

sometimes you spend more trying to save less

As for your paint.......save up, find a real shop in your town, and pay them.

to the "mystery guy" who painted it...damn man...don't know about the quality of your "other" work..but I sure wouldn't want to put my name on that paint job...

Not bashin no one..just stating facts as I see em lol

cheers mates!

Thanks for your responce Twisty ... I think the truck has already been primed/sealed and I say think, because the painter actually posted some pics of the truck primed. I'm not 100% sure it was primed, because the painter could have photoshoped the pics. I know that the tailgate and the door jams weren't primed because there's Havest Gold right under the blue where the paint is chipping off.
I planned on selling the truck because it's my secondary truck but there's no way I can sell it like this and that's one of the reasons I'm so upset. I actually needed the money to pay some bills. It's a 2WD with the coil spring suspension so I won't be doing any wheeling in it or going through any brush. It's a good street truck, it rides like a Cadillac compared to my 2004 4X4.
Here's a pic of it. (It looks good from a distance)

X2 ... I'm the type of person that always likes to give the small shops(the little man) my business because I don't like the big box stores, but when it comes to having your vehicle painted DO NOT have someone paint it if they don't do this full time and if they don't have a spray booth.

I wasn't going to post on this thread and I am only going to post once. I am not going to defend my opinions or argue other peoples opinions. I am just going state a few facts. The only reason I am is to clear a couple things up. I know I am already guilty in the court of public opinion. I have never tried to be in the business of painting cars for people. I have been on these forums for years and have never advertised for work as a painter or tried to get anybody to bring their vehicle to my shop for a paint job. Yeah I paint but usually my vehicles and I can live with the quaility. If I wanted better quaility I would buff them after painting. I do not have a paint booth or top of the line equipment. Most of you have seen many of my projects. I make trucks look a lot better than they were but do not produce show quality vehicles and they are less than oem quaility paint. I am on my 26th ranger. Anybody can do a search an see a good number of my paint jobs/project trucks. They are all similar quality. Some come out better than others. Brian's truck is pretty similar to any of the trucks I have done.

First off I was totally unaware Brian had a problem with the paint until it was plastered all over the internet. Maybe if he would have contacted me then we could have worked something out. In most cases when a person has a problem with work they paid for the first thing to do would be to discuss it with the person doing the work. This goes for any work you pay for, not just cars. Most people would also look at the work the person has performed on similar jobs. Brian had seen 2 of my black trucks in person before I painted his They were not buffed out or any better quality than his turned out. The quality is the same as his, I did not do a worse job on his, especially on purpose as he would like people to believe.

Brian gave me 2 checks. One was 600.00 and one was 1500.00 that does not add up to 2450 for a paint job. Consider all the work I did that was not related to the paint job. Also consider all the body work I did that was not the actual painting. When you consider that, the the actual painting was not the biggest portion of the job. All the materials also came out of that amount. I gave Brian choices on materiels and he told me to buy the cheaper paint, thats what I did. I do not have the exact amount of the materials because I gave Brian all the receipts.

Here's a quote from one of Brian's posts.

"I tried to leave with this resolved, but told me that if I wanted a better job then I should have taken it to a body shop. I could have done a better job than this myself in my barn."

This is totally untrue. he never indicated he was unhappy and I never told him that. 2 other forum members were at my house the day he picked it up. Ask them about that day. One was Chris(Vista on the forum) and Brian(Auto or Axle on the forum) Brian was in a rush to get out of here, he had a long drive home.

Here's another quote from the same post

"I'm going to ask him for a partial refund again and if he refuses to give it to me I will be taking him to small claims court."

He has never even emailed me let alone try to come to an agreement.

I am not happy about the situation. I never wanted Brain to be unhappy with his truck. I never wanted my name in a thread like the one's he started. I made some mistakes. The first one was agreeing to even paint his truck. I let being rushed thru the job effect my judgement, I should have made him wait I guess. At the end of the day I guess it is what it is and we have both learned lessons. I shouldn't paint cars for people and Brian should go to a high dollar paint shop to get the quality he expects. I am not going to post anymore on the subject so you guys can make your own opinions and I have mine. I'll post a few close up pics of my current truck(Brian saw when he dropped his off) just to prove my truck is no better than his.

x2 on both of these.

OP paid John to basically rebuild his truck, then paint it. Services rendered were alot more than a paint job. Honestly i think John should have charged him alot more for what he did.

Brian, Fordfan w/e.. I think that you should stop the slander and give everyone THE WHOLE STORY instead of twisting it to try and make yourself to be the victim. Its no wonder your thread/posts were altered on another forum.

Terry, you're still a troll and an idiot.
