Need some advise on How-To remove Orange Peel
Hey guys,
I just had my my truck painted and there's heavy Orange Peel all over the truck. (I paid $2450 for this job, so I'm not too happy with the results.) I need to get this taken care of as soon as possible. The paint job is so bad, it's pretty obvious that the painter didn't care. What would be a reasonable price to have the whole truck wet sanded and buffed out with Meguir's Ultra cut compound? And if there's anyone within a 120 mile radius that would be willing to do this please sent me a PM. I tried to get some help on the other Ranger site and everyone is too afraid to respond to my question because if you say anything bad about the paint job one of the Mods over there will immediately delete your responce.
btw ... this was a two part painting process Base Coat then Clear Coat.
The painter told me that there was 4 coats of paint and 4 coats of clear put on, but the truck tells a different story.
Here's a few pics to give you an idea of what I'm dealing with.
The photobucket pictures don't really show how bad the Orange peel is, if you want, I can send you the full size files.
The hood
The bed rail
The paint is already chipping and I can see there was no primer used in that spot because the Harvest Gold is right under the blue
Some paint that came off of the tailgate after I tried to remove a peice of dirt embedded in the paint
The passenger side mirror with a peice of hair right in the center
Thanks in advance,
Brian

Well, Unforunately I can't do that because his shop is 450 miles away. I've showed him pictures of what's happening and he just doesn't care.
I think he done this crappy job on purpose. Take a look at where he put masking tape on my back doors.
The tape should have went on the glass, not on the actual peice that he was painting.
He also burned a hole in my carpet with his cigarette then shaved the carpet fibers down

1) How long ago was this?
2) Why did you leave without this resolved?
3) Why did you pick this guy? A 500 mile drive makes me believe you had special reasons for going to him.
I would take the truck to another shop, let them know exactly what is going on, get them to give you pictures, documentation, and their expert opinion as to what is wrong & why it is wrong... along with the cost to fix it.
Then take the guy to small claims court.

its funny you all should say that now, as if you find out who painted it, yall might change your opinion.
with that being said, I honestly think that anyone would be upset with this paint job. too bad people have to pick sides.

Re: Need some advise on How-To remove Orange Peel
thats bs about the mods deleting comments. it doesnt matter if its a mod or a member that did it. if its a crappy job then its a CRAPPY job. fuck thinking that because its a buddy buddy job then they have leeway to do a bad job.
2ndly, knowing who did it prevents other people from making the same mistake (paying 2500 for a paint job now worth 200)
3rdly, WTF...500 miles for a paint job costing 2500? correct me if im wrong but cant u get that same paint job done professionally at the same price or close to it in ur local area WHERE they are required by law to do it right?

Re: Need some advise on How-To remove Orange Peel
It would have been simpler to do with a spray can, local , cheap and same results

There is more to it than just a paint job.
But at the end of the day, the paint job was part of the deal, and clearly, the op is not happy. I wouldn't be either IMO

Re: Need some advise on How-To remove Orange Peel
If a member here painted it, I'd post a scathing review in the "member review" area. There is absolutely no need to protect him, no matter who it is. a Bad paint job costing $2,500 by someone who obviously doesn't care. It's time we stopped being "protective" of peoples feelings. If I had a bad paint job, I'd be listing his name, location, phone number, etc... all over the internet. Just to warn others to "steer clear" of this guy.
