Honestly, It just pissed me off to see brian screwed and everyone take the painters side (on the 'other site'). At the end of the day, the painter and brain made a deal. Weither or not it was a cheap price shouldnt matter. I guess its just me but If I had done the work, I would want to be proud of the work I had done. There would be no way I could let a car leave looking like that.
i can totally get that, just seemed it was a personal vendetta for u lol

Clinton, I agree with where you are coming from. Since I saw the other thread and both sides, I already have my opinion.

Yes, it sure is, It's the definition of Orange peel.
I never thought in a million years that the painter would have done such a horrible job. The reason I took it to him and drove so far is because he done some good work for me before and he done a great job. The crazy part is that I had to replace the core support on my truck and I painted it myself (never used a paint gun before this) in my basement and there's no orange peel on the core support.
It almost seems like he put his spray gun on a orange peel setting.

I would take the truck to another shop, let them know exactly what is going on, get them to give you pictures, documentation, and their expert opinion as to what is wrong & why it is wrong... along with the cost to fix it.

Then take the guy to small claims court.
1. I picked the trck up on April 16th. I dropped the truck off on
March 6th. It took him almost 6 weeks to get it done.
2. I tried to leave with this resolved, but told me that if I wanted a better job then I should have taken it to a body shop. I could have done a better job than this myself in my barn.
3.I picked this guy because this guy was suppose to be like a Ranger expert. A lot of the guys on the Ranger-Forums acted like he was the best of the best when it came to Rangers ... well, I leaned the hard way that he can't paint.

I'm going to ask him for a partial refund again and if he refuses to give it to me I will be taking him to small claims court.

It's people like that "painter" who give small, Independent professional painters a bad name. after reading this "Horror" story, I'd most likely never use anything but a large, well established, licensed professional automotive painting company.

2ndly, knowing who did it prevents other people from making the same mistake (paying 2500 for a paint job now worth 200)

3rdly, WTF...500 miles for a paint job costing 2500? correct me if im wrong but cant u get that same paint job done professionally at the same price or close to it in ur local area WHERE they are required by law to do it right?
You're exactly right Eric ... there's definitely a buddy buddy system going on over on the other site because the painter (wvcat) over on the Ranger-Forums isn't even a contributor and I'm a Level 3 contributer over there and I was clearly screwed over but the Mods over there wouldn't immediatly delete someone's post if they said anything about the painter at all. And a lot of the members even took up for him even after seeing the kind of work that he done.(talk about adding insult to injury)
I'm definitely going to close my account over there and become a contributor over here.
I really appreciate

Eric is 100% right ... It is wvcat aka John Hudson
I was afraid to actually put his name on here after how quick my post got deleted. My thread got locked very fast too then I asked one of the Mods over there why the thread got locked so fast, because I didn't even mention his name in the "How to repair Orange peel" post
And his resposne was that we had to close it because we were getting too many complaints. I was like "WTF?"

Ok, since its a one sided bash, here are more details to this. It wasnt just a paint job, it was alot more

Basically he wanted a bigger motor in his 04, it was a 3.0 and he wanted a 4.0 Well he ended up putting his 04 on a 4wd frame. After finishing his 4x4 conversion he had the 04 2wd frame sitting there in good condition so he put this 99 body on it. He made the decision to convert the 99 to all 04 electronics since he had most of the needed pieces. He was having some dificulties with the wiring and that's where I came into the picture. I agreed to help him finish the wiring and paint the truck. In the mean time he also decided to do some upgrades like converting the 99 doors to power, adding an OHC, and a 06 conversion on the front end. Well I finished all the wiring this morning and started on the body work. After finishing the wiring I pulled it outside and took some pics...

This is you saying this after you got home with the truck

The truck feels like a luxury car with the auto trans and the coil spring suspension. It's like the complete oppisite of my black Ranger. I really like it though and I've already got some complements on the color and the paint job.

LOL ... I get OHC and OHV mixed up all the time.
The Over Head Console is is workin great, having that and the dome light with 2 bulbs really lights up the inside of the cab.

Thanks ... I was worried about getting the blue oval centered just right, but I think I got it.
This is the actual cost for the paint job and the truth about the monies paid

I think it's a real shame this has all spilled off onto the forum. Regardless of Brians issues with the finished product, at the end of day he never paid the $250 for the labor anyway therefore he doesn't have any right to complain! That's like going into McDonalds and complaining that your BigMac has pickles even though you never ordered a BigMac lol.

.

I think John made human errors and was rushed through a project that should have been carefully executed with a reasonable time frame. For a full vehicle restoration (wiring, interior, and exterior) for one guy part-time, a month is laughable. Sounds to me like 3 months would have seemed more appropriate.

JUST SO EVERY IS CLEAR THE COST OF LABOR WAS $250. COST OF PAINT WAS $150.

Clinton, thanks for posting johns side of the story.

I do have one question. Why are you saying the paint job was only 500 dollars? The op claims it was 2500 (of couse, that includes the addional electrical stuff, interior and body work).
