Default 2000 Ranger Rust / Paint repair

I have a 2000 white ranger that has two spots where the paint has started to peel and rust has started to develop. (see attached pictures). I would like any recommendations on what I can do to repair the damage and stop the spread of the rust (at least temporarily). I am not interested in a perfect repair. I really dont care if you can still see the defect after. I just want to slow the progress of the peeling/rust. Any suggestions on what I can do at home with little cost would be greatly appreciated.

On small, inconspicuous rust spots, I like to use Rust Converter (suposedly kills rust and converts it to a paintable surface) and then I just use touch up paint. Might not look good on those areas, though.
