the exhaust manifold is right there so I'm assuming that is why it is open. To A. vent the heat and B. not melt whatever shielding would be there.

Go to a junk yard and grab one off another ranger. Turn it over and place it on.

or you can kind a mudflap from a semi at a truck stop or whatever...make your cut lines in chalk...i saw someone do that but i believe it was to use them as gap guards after a body lift.

or you can find an older ranger and get one from that. they used to come with one on both sides, mine did. for some reason they stopped doing that on the newer trucks.

these solutions would be your best bet, most of the older wheel well paneling is thin, flexible, and easy to install with the original small screws, and heat resistant better than a mud flap would be n still allows some cooling airflow for your exhaust manifold, and i would just install it the same or similar way you took it off the older salvaged wreck.

Mine did to. The only thing is I upgraded to bigger tires and it ripped it off. I dont see it as a problem yet so I just left it as is.
