Default Tailagate latches

I had to replace the plastic rod lever clips which operate the handle. Now if i operate the handle, the rods work great. Now if I go to close the tailgate, the spring plungers are not catching to close the gate. I have to pull them up individually before trying to close the gate.
I hope this makes sense. It is like they have play in them. Is there a bushing/s that fit over the plungers in the tailgate?

no I havent sprayed them with WD. May be worth a try. Drop your tailgate and the latches that go in and out when you pull the handle. mine do just that, but have slop in them that will not catch the receiver plates near the taillights. So they will not latch until I pull them forward.
