Default Anybody know a Good black paint...

Does anybody know of a good quality black paint that I can use that won't break the damn bank? I'm wanting to repaint my truck by myself. I got a quote today for about $12,000 dollars for everything including body work, which is way, way too much for me. I just need help on picking a good quality paint.

I was thinking about using summit racing's new paint system, but they're using alot of GM's colors and their black paint really isn't no where deep as mine is now. They did have a finish that I liked and that was Black Cherry which looked really deep with a slight Merlot color to it. So far that is the only black paint they have that I like. Thanks guys. It's kinda hard to get the original black clear coat that they used 7 years ago. they've changed the shading of it since then several times over, and none have even come close.

Hey Mark,
Yeah I'm looking at them pretty close too. They have alot of finishes that caught my eye. I'm loving the Black Cherry they have with a high metal flake. That would look really sharp on my ranger. Russell Brooks will probably be the most help to me considering he's a diehard Ford man, and he loves my ranger. He bit his tongue a bit when I mentioned putting in a 350 SBC in my truck, L.O.L. plus there's a local trade school here that will probably paint it for nothing and next to nothing if I supplied the paint and pitched in where I can.

The best I ever used was PPG , base & clearcoat. You can find a local supplier thru your phone book under auto parts. Super easy to use & kick ass shine.

I use Nason, it's a cheaper line of paint but it good quality. Black is probably around 40-50 a quart.

I have looked at PPG before on other vehicles I've had in the past. They seem ok, but they're not really what I'm looking for though at this time. I'm still considering House of Kolor but they tend to be expensive and require multiple layers and coats for each layer. A local Napa dealer not far away supplies some pre mixed paint but they want do a custom color though.

Nason aint bad price wise and I have looked into them before as well. They didn't quite have what I wanted really and didn't have to many choices either. I've also looked at duplicolor but that really doesn't look right and they don't have alot of choices either.

Well after checking out a few paint dealers online and some of their prices, I've decided to go with House of Kolor's line up for the following reasons:

#1: They have alot more options and colors that I like and their prices aint no where near as bad as I thought they'd be and some of the companies will not let you order online unless you're a dealer through their network.

#2: They offer alot more options and some classes on using their products to the general public that can lead to a successfull career based on something That I'd love to do as a hobby or otherwise make a successfull business out of it on the side.

#3: Alot of other auto paint manufacturers, want you to become a dealer and spend more money than is needed and carry alot of colors that nobody really wants and to make matters worse always try to "upsell" you on shit that you don't even need. For example; Dupont whom is very well known and established and does have alot of stuff that caught my eye wanted me to buy a portable body shop just to be able to buy their paint and they also wanted me to become a dealer through their network. The price tag for all of this: $28,000 dollars up front plus a royalty fee of $8,000 dollars a year just to be listed as a dealer. That's well over double of the $12,000 quote that I got today by a very good autobody shop that's respected in my neighborhood as well as a couple of other states.

#4: Alot of the other companies, like Dupont wouldn't even let me see their photos of colors they have to offer. Limited color base is all they would let me see and quite a few others were the same way whom I will not mention on here which is disappointing to say the least. That's bad for business in my book. I mean turning on the general public like that is all around bad news.

I also would like to thank everyone for their input and giving me direction on where to look concerning this matter. I just wish that buying auto paint is alot easier than it is today. It seems to me that most aftermarket companies want to push people into becoming an "authorized dealer" onto the general public these days. What ever happened to just buying what is needed, we'll never know for sure. That seems to be alot of where the problems begin with aftermarket companies these days; Don't go with this company they'll treat you badly, go with us instead and in the end you end up getting treated worse than you would've with the first company you chose.

Glad we could help. You'll be happy with House of Kolor. My cousin had his 63 impala painted with it and it was the richest deepest paint I'd ever seen. I think for your application, it will look fabulous.

Yeah man, I'm already happy with the way their website is set up and the fact you can view alot of different color combinations before you purchase your paint. I'm leaning towards the color combo of black with a hint of merlot barely bleeding through, or the Glo in the dark blue really caught my eye. This painting bit came up after using zymol cleaner wax and how it shows just about every blemish in the paint that is known to man. I appreciate any and all info concerning this.
