I have heard some stories about UV fading, so is there a separate product that needs to be applied after applying the liner or do they make a liner with UV protection?

I used rustoleum then painted them, and yes I taped them off prior to herculine. You have to pull the tape off before it dries completely. I did all the bed bolts, and the tailgate bolts. I even painted the tailgate latches on the sides and all the mechanism parts

They make a separate product for the UV protection for ALL liners (it's still Herculiner brand, but you can use it on LineX, Rhinoline, etc.). You can find it on any site that you can buy Herculiner from.

I just did my bed liner two days ago and thought I would share my experience in case anyone was thinking about doing their own.

I used the Herculiner brand kit, it can be found at any auto parts store and ran about $90; it comes with everything you will need except a quart of Acetone or Xylene. Grab some of that, a roll of painter's tape (I used scott's blue), and GLOVES! I disregarded the glove advice and my hands are still coated in bed liner.

Another word of advice; take your time with the taping, and prep work. It will pay off in the end. I started off taping all the edges, then scuffed the bed with the provided scotchbrite pad and wiped it out with some acetone. Then apply two coats of the product and boom. All in all it took me about 5 hours start to finish.

Here's how it turned out:

The "fading" can be seen in FFParker's first and second pictures. For the first few weeks, the liner is glossy - then fades to a flat black. It doesn't effect the durability at all.
