Default roof rack lights install

since i cant post this in the how to section im hoping it will get moved but lets get started on this small project that i did over the weekend.

first the tools you will need for this job depending on how you want to rig them but start with the basics some drilling may be required

1. standard socket wrench set
2. #2 electrical conduit hangers (depends on how big around the bar that you are mounting to is for this case 3/4 inch)
3. a power drill
4. 1/2 drill bit that can drill metal
5. a file
6. and 5/8 vacuum line about a foot of it

first start with drilling the holes into the conduit hangers its not easy to do but a vice would help alot.

next take the vacuum tube and cut off like an inch of it.
you should end up with something like this.

now take the tube and put it over the bolt that is on the lights that you are trying to install in this case hella's 500. this piece is to just fill the space between the bolt and nut when you fit it. plus it doubles as a cheap shock absorber.

and then take the conduit hanger and fit it under the vacuum hose and then install the nut on the bolt. you will have to bend the brackets on the end to fit the nut.. but just tighten the nut and bend it back but dont over do it.

and this should be your finished product of what you have done

a couple of suggestions just to keep the parts nice and tight replace the nut with a locking nut and paint conduit parts to whatever color you desire.

also if you dont mind drilling into the roof rack at all i would buy some self tapping screws and drill into the conduit hanger so it doesnt move around when you are on the highway

and this is the finished product of what it looks like

To each there own. They are high but no other way to mount them on this roof rack.

after seeing it, it's not the lights, but the location. I've seen other roof racks like yours where the lights were mounted on a cross bar directly in front of the word "THULE"
Where you have your lights mounted now, you cannot get into any garage, UNLESS it has a modified door. And, a truck as nice as yours, should be garaged at night, or when not in use, especially in the winter time, to keep it looking great.

well i bought a f150 car cover to protect it from sun damage but i dont have a good place to store it like a garage.. so i just keep it covered when im not driving it. it works well that way
