Default Started to make a custom 4.5" Ford Emblem here are the results.

So I started to take apart some Ford emblems and couldn't keep the chrome letters in tact so I decided to go a whole different route. You'll be surprised just how easy this project was, if anyone is interested I can give instructions.

As you can see the emblems pictured have two different patterns because I messed up on the first one and had to redo it.

Ok, here is how its done. You take the emblem and use a razor to get in between the chrome and the clear plastic and pry it off. Don't worry about the paint or the letters. Get as much resedue of the chrome base as you can. Then you take the blue and clear oval and soak it in laquer thinner for a minute or two. After taking the oval out of the thinner rub with a cloth and get off as much blue as you can. Repeat this process until all the blue and silver gel lettering is removed, if neccesary use some kind of pick to get lettering out. Once everything is clean and clear take digital camouflage duct tape, that's right duct tape, and cover the chrome base. Then press the tape into the base making sure to get the edges tight. Its best to use the actual clear oval to press in the edges by dragging the end along the inside perimeter (this is why we haveant painted the letters). Once the edges are tight to the sides, take a knife or razor blade and cut along the edge and then pull the tape off and you should have relatively clad edges, if not they may be distorted enough by the clear oval to not matter. Now we go on to lettering. Since you removed the chrome letters you must fill in with a color of your choice. You can try metallic silver but it ends up looking dull like mine. Spray a genorous coat of your selected color on the back of the clear oval. Then dab a piece of cloth in laquer thinner and wipe off the excess paint. You may also clearcoat the oval if desired. All you need to do now is glue the oval to the chrome base over the tape. For this part you can use whatever adhesive you think would be appropriate, I used cheap super glue but there has to be a better adhesive because you don't want it to look wet behind the clear oval. Im sure someone can improve upon this method and I would love to hear suggestions.

Since I used "Color" duct tape this can be done using a variety of patterns including zebra stripe and cheetah print.

I couldn't find tape in that pattern but I would suggest trying the above steps but instead of using tape, glue the fabric onto the back of the clear oval then glue that to the chrome base. I'm sure that would work perfectly.
