Default Winches

School me. Im looking for one for my Sheep and cant decide, if I actually pull the trigger to get one, what one to get. Should I go with a 8,000lbs one or a higher weight. After everything the Grand should come out at aprx 4,500lbs with nothing in it. Is a brand like Mile Marker good? According the the reveiws it had it was a good winch. I know nothing about these things so any help and info is much appreciated.

I have always liked Warn, they are built in Oregon
The military uses them.
All you need is a VR8000.http://www.warn.com/truck/winches/VR8000_winch.shtml
It has a roller fairlead too!
You will also want to get a tree strap and a pulley/snatchblock .

For a little bit more $, you can get the VR12000.http://www.warn.com/truck/winches/VR12000_winch.shtml
It weighs about the same, comes with 3/8" rope and the pull is over 9,000 lbs on the fifth layer!!
Absolutely phenomenal specs for less than $700!!!

Cool deal. Deffenitly looking at Warns. I was looking at them befre and have heard nothing but good things. Warn also has the wireless remote right? Is there a way to hook it up so there are controls inside? Ive google some stuff but came up with nada.

I've always had good luck with the XRC series that smittybuilt has. Strong and I've never had one break on me...Are a little noisy at times, but best bang for the buck. Now, I HAVE heard good reviews on Rough Countrys new winches. Hell, they sell a 9500 lb winch with synthetic line for $400...I dont think you can go wrong with that. I plan on trying it out here soon actually

You need a roller fairlead.
I would pass on synthetic line.

That link shows a Hawes fairlead and it also says the same in the specs.

If I were going to buy an RC winch, I would get the 12k - 3/8" rope and the roller fairlead at less than 100 lbs.
