What did you just ask? lol As far as I can tell, you probably need new fluid in the differential, and the brakes are probably rusty, other then that you can't stop the axle on the other end because you have what is called an open rear end. There is nothing connecting both sides of the axle but the diff. The diff will send power to whatever wheel has the least friction.

what the hell. I think you need a new axle. I messed around and bent mine as well. Ended up swapping a full axle in.

It sounds like he did swap axles, but the new one is making noise.

umm thats not how an open dif works it only sends power to one wheel all the time it never sends power to the other wheel. you thinkin more of a limited slip

Haha no, a limited slip works by tranfering power from the spinning wheel with least friction to the wheel with the most friction, evening the load. An open diff will send power to the wheel with least friction, meaning easiest to move. So if he is holding one wheel, it will send the power to the wheel that isn't being held.

yeah its not how it works lol. l/s has clutches in it that when one wheel starts to spin the clutches engage and send power to the wheel that has the most traction. hints the name limited slip cuz one wheel has to starts to slip on the clutch packs inside the axle before the other one fully engages

yeah. so could it possibly be that the axle he pulled out of the truck had something broke in it which allowed him to stop it by hand

I know that it uses clutches children, I was putting it simply. The wheel with most traction will also be the wheel with the most friction. The clutches engage, slowing the other wheel with less friction or the spinning one, passing power to the wheel with the most traction!

It doesn't sound like the axles is broken. It sounds like the axle is just an open diff. You can hold the wheel on one side on an open diff and the other will spin.

true but on an open you would be able to stop the non driving side by hand and the driving side will still spin and he said that he stopped both driving and non driving sides by hand which doesnt make since cuz the the carrier assembly would be turning the driving side and he shouldnt be able to stop that in 5th at idle

guys i did swap axles the 1 i put in is spinning free and make noise too.. duh does that make NE sense?? i got it from a bone yard in florida drove there in my ranger was a lot wobbly and on the LooK out if ya now what i mean i guess you guy are closer to michigan than florida??let me explain in Fullest detail im capable of giving translate this you meatheads when i turn the yoke by hand or after attatching driveshaft to it..with me so far?. while the yoke id turning im able to hold the axle flange still without moving..get it.. the axle i removed was able to break my grip when i turn the yoke by hand and was still turning the wheels(not without lots wobble) before i removed its bent ass.. so my question is this (should i go with a explore rear diff. w. disk setup eventually maybe you decide..lets take a vote..) what is making the axles not turn on the boneyard diff ??? traction unit failure..

You can stop the axle from turning and there's noise coming from the rear.

Drive shaft is butted against the RDU but you forgot to put bolts in?

Horribly stripped splines?
