Default Is it possible to convert 2WD -> 4WD?

Just out of curiousity....found out I'm going to another place where it snows, and I wanted to look into possibly converting my Ranger to 4WD if it's not too insane....but I have some sort of hunch that this is a lot of work that I might just be better off trading in for another Ranger that is already 4WD.

Thoughts?

LOL says the guy in california. a plowed mountain road doesn't count.
try taking your 4x2 on a road with 18-24 inches of un plowed of snow, then tell us you don't need 4x4 in the snow.

What year is your truck?

If you go with the electric switch style it is harder then a manual transfer case.
There are a lot of parts you need to have. if you can find the same year truck as yours and just swap it over it would be a little easier.

I live in north bay ontario and we have pretty brutal winters... Snowbanks this year were over 8 ft high in february.. I have a rwd and sure sometimes its a pain in the ass but its not NEEDED I got around perfectly fine all winter... Just get good winter tires and put some weight in the back and ull be fine... Save ur money and try it out for your first winter and I think ull change your mind

It can be done, I am about to do this, I am swapping over a straight axel , dana 44 up front and I will keep my expo rear end 4.88, some welding and a few brackets, but it can be done and will take approximately 15 hours. I have already acquired the parts and a team of knowledgeable guys that do this for a living and fun, and as STL said, electric will be much much harder. manual easy.
