Default winch mounting 1998 ford ranger

Fellow ranger owners,

I'd like your thoughts on the following, so I don't go out of my way to go off roading but I'm an avid hiker, backpacker, and camper. I often end up taking my truck (2wd) down roads with rough terrain to get to the places I like to hike. I've unfortunately been stuck a few times in mud and it sucks so I've been considering getting a winch just in case I ever get really really stuck and need to use it as a last resort. I don't know much about how they are mounted so does anyone know how difficult it would be to mount one on my 1998 ford ranger? Would I need a new bumper or would I be able to make it work using my stock bumper? would I need to fabricate something to mount it on? Would a winch even be a practical solution to my high risk of getting stuck? I couldn't find much info on this in any threads on the forums that really helped so any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks guys I'm just looking for a bit extra peace of mind.

1998 XLT 2.5L 5 speed 2wd Ranger
