Default Repainting Tailgate Progress. Pictures!

Went to O'rilley to get suppies to paint my desperate tailgate. $82 got me some primer, YZ Oxford White paint, and some clear. My buddy has a real nice paint gun the we used.

First gave it a good sanding.

Then laid on the primer.

Thats as far as I got tonight ill finish it up tomorrow and post moar pictars.

Question. I bought a Oversize Ford oval from flaresidexlt and im putting that right in the middle like the f150s so ill need to drill some new holes. As for the old holes do you guys think some body filler will stay in those holes? My dad thinks it will pop out over time.

i would have filled it up before you started painting. i think the bondo will just push through the holes instead of fill them, unless you get access to the back side and block the holes.

Probably right. Best thing would be a thin plate behind it welded on like you say (dont burn through! lol) and THEN bondo over sand and paint.

Somone else probably has a better idea

the holes are small enough that if you're lucky you can probably just fill them with tack welds if you're a good enough welder.

WAIT!!!

Don't drill more holes in your tailgate.... just snip off the tabs on the oval & use some good exterior foam tape to install it.

You'll hate yourself if you drill those holes & decide later on to change ovals.

I've cut off dozens of the alignment tabs from ovals & they serve no purpose on the tailgate other than aligning the oval. Just get measurements side to side & top to bottom to center the oval & mark the area with masking tape. Peel off the foam tape backing & stick that sucker on there.

If you can get behind it a piece of fiberglass.
