Getting the ovals apart is the easy part, figuring out how to get the chrome out of the Ford script is the real challenge.
At least 25% of the ovals I mod break during the disassembly process.... and I've done about 100 of them so far.
Not all ovals can be modded in this manner though. The newer ovals...maybe 01's up are either gel filled or are a molded aluminum over a plastic base.
The gel filled ovals can be modded, but I haven't invested much time or effort into them as finding a suitable gel/epoxy to refill them with is way too expensive for me.
The molded aluminum ovals look like a nightmare to mod. You'll have to sand all the chrome & coloring off then carefully mask each area to paint... not something I look forward to doing.
If you only want to make a set for your truck, don't do it... but some that have been modded (from me
If you plan on making them to sell, buy a hundred or so ovals to experiment with before you go public & make sure they stand up to the elements over time.
From start to finish, a set of custom ovals will take me from 1 to 2 WEEKS to complete.
