Default Light bar build

Hey guys, i decided to start building a light bar today. I didnt get done, im not even really near but im starting this thread to get some input. First im going to post pictures of how the light housings im using started off.

They are actually military 24v lights with infared lenses over top of them. I guess so they could light up areas they were surveiling without being seen. I took them apart, put in some regular 12v bulbs, and theres a gap where the lens was but its not so bad.

Im going to be using light bar mounts of the same style that the police use on their light bars, but the issue im running into is what to use for the mounting surface itself. I was planning to use a piece of angle iron from a bed frame but

1.) The drill press i had wont drill through it?

2.) the angle wont allow the lights to be mounted because of the style mount the lights are. There isnt enough surface area for the bolt to go through with the little round part too. Hopefully youll see what i mean thats not a good explination. So, what would you guys use to mount the lights on? Keep in mind these lights are HEAVY!

The lights as they were for military

The back

What i did

First shot at the bar, FAIL

As for powering them, i think im going to wire them up in paralell, ground negative run a big power wire to the roof some how to the positive, hook that up to a relay, ground the relay, run a small wire to a switch under the dash and hop on to 12v somewhere under the dash for the switch too.

What yall think?

----------

its gunna be a 3 light bar. As in three lights on it

its gonna go on the back portion of the cab. Well, actually like kinda even with the front and rear door lines.

And i think im gunna keep the lights cause i like the green military look. Im gunna pick up some steel strut soon and see how that does.

You guys say fail for the whole idea or just fail on the first try? I think it could look good if i get it done! The switch im using is going to be an unused fog light switch, i got two in my bezel

Naw i think it will turn out good if you get it done too. i love lights lol. but ive noticed having mine on the back you def feel them up there, but if your set up works it should be no prob. How are you going to mount it? in the door jams?

those lights ( the fluted lens) looks like they would not light up more than 10 feet.
they appear to be more of a "flood" light which is not really the type of light that works best when mounted on the roof or a roll bar of a truck.

I actually toyed with this a few months back, heres a pic with two lights up, but i stopped the whole process cause as you can see that aluminum metal piece i used started sagging lol. I wish i could get another bulb and do four lights instead of three, but oh well. Even the two look good three will balance it out and look good i think.

----------

Yeah, i may just wait till i can get money for the right bulbs and other things. I just scraped these all together out of things i had laying around. Mainly i just want lights up there cause it looks sick and any lights are better than no lights!

if it turns out to be too much i may just put them on the bumper or something. I dont know i think the steel strut will be ugly. This project may never progress lol
