Default Custom paint

When I bought my ranger last year there was a small spot on the roof right behind the windshield where the paint was chipping. I thought I could avoid it getting bigger by buying one of those touch up kits from an auto parts store... The rest of the paint started to peel away around the touch up paint. So now I have been looking into changing the paint scheme on my truck. It's all white now and I like it but I was thinking instead of repainting the roof white, I would paint it with lace like They used to do in the 60s and 70s.

Anyone have any other paint schemes that they have seen over the years that they liked. Like I said the lace is just an idea and I am still looking for inspiration.

Thanks,
Eric

custom paint- you are only limited by your imagination. the possibilities are endless.

as far as lacing the roof.... I really dont know how that would look. lacing and marbleizing ect. are pretty much for a accent i.e. Stripes and what not. Myself i wouldnt do the roof that way. You wont be able to see very well and get the full effect. If you plan on doing a color change you are in for alot of work if its done right, take doors, fenders, hood, and bed off to hit all the jams. it will be alot easier to stick to white. and come up with a paint scheme to go down the side. or you could lay down some pearl over the white...... I hope this helps???

I have also thought of the fact that it is used more as an accent piece to the rest of the paint, so I was thinking maybe some kind of racing stripes or something. Then just messing with those rather than painting the whole roof or the whole truck.

You could two-tone it…shoulder body line up and belt line down…like a 90's F-150

(9th generation is my personal favorite for F-150s)

Anyone can do racing stripes unless that's what you really want. Use your creative noodle. The lines on a Ranger's body gives you lots of leeway on what you want. Just be prepared to spend some $$$ if you want it to turn heads!

If you still want to do that thing on the roof, you can look into vinyl.

Just make sure that area is smooth so the vinyl will sit smooth over it.

Its cheaper, easier, and best of all, reversible.

Anything you can do with paint, you can do with vinyl.

Thanks for the advice guys. The body lines on these trucks are sick that's one of the reasons I got one. any pictures you've come across with different paint schemes? I have to wait to the weather to get better here before I can even think about laying down some new paint.

And for the vinyl, could I just go to a vinyl shop and give them the design and the dimensions and they would print it? I don't really have any experience with vinyl other than some small decals on windows and such.

Thanks
Eric

I know this is a ranger forum and everything... But hot damn that's one sexy ass bike. And the two tone paint job looks nasty. I really would like to do something like that but I don't know how involved I want to get with painting all of the jams and everything.

Be as specific as possible, pictures help. I had mine drawn up and brough it so they got my placement and all correct.

Also, I keep seeing a light yellow and white chekerboard roof image in my mind when I look at your photo lol

the two-tone paint scheme has a 1/4" black (nissan galaxy) stripe between.. and I didn't do any jam work, just ran it in the jam bout 1/2" so you cant see the break when the doors are closed

i know this is just plain and everyone does it... but its one of my favorite paint jobs of all time

I guess what im trying to say (in the nicest way possible) i want my truck to be the one that causes accidents because people are looking at it and have it stand out in a crowd. I just dont want to blend in with the factory colors on the rest of the cars i see everyday.

If thats truely the case, primer it(You can always do a matte white) and pinstripe the heck out of it. I'm talkin fancy stripes, not just down the side stuff

Some quick examples.

spray cans will streak, cause spray pattern isn't wide enough, some people use black primer (it will break down in weather, not designed for that).... they make flatteners for Clear coats, but that should be left to professionals... flattening agents seal, so finger prints are not an issue..

my paint work
