Default New paint job.

My '85 ranger is in need of a new paint job. I am asking those of you out there that are experienced with paint job to help me out on a few things. I am looking for the best place to start the paint job as far as where to start. WhT I need to know is what grit to start sanding at, and so on from rough grit to fine grit. Ihave heard to start at about a 50 grit and end with a 500 wet but would like to know more about how to go about sanding and the steps I shall talk doing it. Fromthis point on until summer I will be looking for more and more answers towards the restoration of my truck and the steps needed to be takin.

been painting for 18yrs.... where to start depends on a lot of things.. but I can tell u one thing now, dnt start with 80g unless you're taking it all the way down to metal... it all depends on wht condition the paint is in, as is where to start

Like on all ford trucks ever made it has some termites in the fender wells and on a few corners. I will be replacing the metal with new and as far as rust throughout the body it's mainlysurface rust. Would I be better off taking it down to the metal or not? You could probably tell me more so if you seen pictures I hope to have some up soon.

if there are rust holes BEST thing to do is to cut all the rust out and in tsall a patch pannel. because in a year or 2 that rust is going to come through and ruin that nice new pain job you did
