x2. Research roof racks. There are light bars made for rangers. I would attach it to your bed like a roll bar before I drilled into my roof.
Let's say a year later you don't like it anymore. Then what? You have open holes that even if you fill with house silicone, are still going to show.
The next owner of your truck comes along and will turn your truck down because you drilled holes in your roof.
Just saying... fwiw, criticism always good whether its positive or negative. Its how we learn.

Re: Over Cab Light Bar Installation
I wouldn't mind doing this, but no way in hell id drill into my roof, But shit it's your truck don't let critics bug yuh, I'd have to figure something else out. maybe i could attach it to my topper, spent 20 buck on my topper. wouldn't bug me that much to drill into it.
where did you get the steel for it? looks good by the way. =]

there is no way to use a gutter mount light bar since theres no gutter on the roof of my ranger. and to install gutters im pretty sure i would have to drill into my roof anyway.

Thanks for the approval! My dad works for Gexpro Supply so he picked up some of the metal for me. They should carry it at Home Depot or Lowes or any big time hardware store. Just go in and ask for a steel strut they should know what your talking about; you may have to cut it though, mine was originally a 10 foot piece but i cut it down to 5. Then just get the brackets to mount it. I'm not sure what type of brackets i used but I'm sure you could find them if someone at the store points you in the right direction. Again, make sure all the parts are resistant to rust.

well in a couple years when i do get a new truck i plan on keeping this truck and using it as a mud truck only. sop it isnt really going to matter wether or not someone "approves" of the holes in my roof.

ok, since you seem to know of a better way to build a light bar for your truck how exactly would you do it?

Thanks, and I know i have been replying negatively to a lot of the criticism on this thread but all I want to say that this is a cheap mod. it does not say anywhere in this thread that is going to be perfect or look professional. It is a cheap mod that gives you a place to mount your lights if you dont have a roll bar or grill guard and (like me) had trouble mounting them on your bumper. i have no problem with criticism or advice but dont tell me things like:

these are not criticisms, what GGlighting said is criticism. he just said "to each his own" and i respect that. but for anyone thinking that its going to leak, that it reduces the value of my truck, or that it damages my truck. none of these things are true. the holes are completely sealed, im not selling my truck so i am not concerned with its value, and it didnt damage anything, i personally am happy that i did this and would reccomend it to people, as long as its done correctly!
so pleases, stop posting the same things over and over again when they arent true. i am perfectly fine with criticism and advice but thats not what the posts above are.

The way you mounted it is not correct, so how do you recommend it to other people? Using drywall anchors and some random steel you found laying around with self tapping screws is not a proper way to make a light bar. Also, putting lights on the bumper with a simple L bracket is not hard and would give you the same benefit as putting them on the roof.
