WHAT BRAND OF BALLASTS ARE RELIABLE??? i need to know where to buy RELIABLE BALLASTS. I TRIED CHEAP EBAY JUNK BALLASTS WITH MY DDM HID lights and i got discouraged because of junky ballasts. Nothing but headaches with ebay junk. I need links or something for quality reliable ballasts any size slim or regular big small free or expensive rusted or pink ones or purple ones i dont care i just want them to work!!!

I have heard nothing but bad things from our customers about "Xentec" and "One-X" brand ballasts, so I would stay away from those

DDM usually has pretty reliable kits, but their colors aren't the best

JD or JDM (forgot the name), their kits look extremely cheap, but from what I have heard they work pretty well.

In the past 2 years of using the kits that my company supplies, I have only had 3 bad bulbs from the factory, and have yet to come across a bad ballast

All aftermarket HID bulbs are not really at those ratings, nor are their ballasts at what they specify.

im sorry this information is extremely wrong. Projectors are required so you do not blind on coming traffic with glare from your lights. Not just any projectors, but HID projectors. That light scatter as you perfectly pointed out, will always blind on coming traffic.

Any MORIMOTO HID kit can be used for aftermarket bulbs (AMP connectors). All of their other products are OEM ballasts and OEM HID projectors, with the exception of their Plug-n-Play in-house designed Morimoto H1/D2S aftermarket HID projectors

Correct, you don't have to have projectors for HIDs. Many OEM vehicle have reflectors that were DESIGNED for the shape and optics of an HID bulb, they are D2R reflectors. The next sentence is wrong. A halogen reflector housing is NOT meant for HIDs. This will cause MASSIVE glare and blind people. The optics are skewed wrong.

Aftermarket "drop-in" HIDs are ILLEGAL in ALL 50 STATES.

They aren't true high/low as a high/low halogen has two filaments. The high beam filament is the focal center of the optics, while the low beam filament is off center higher and to the left (so the beam is reflected lower and to the right). All a silly PnP HID like you guys have is pull the bulb back and forth. So basically you have a high/high but with screwed up optics.

Sure there are some facts in there, I am putting things in simple terms for people that want inexpensive HIDs and don't want to spend hundreds on projectors and D2S bulbs etc.

Hey it's me again. I bought new bi xenon kit hi lo 6k HIDs for my ranger off of ebay. I installed them (I'm replacing 6k HID low).

I had some troubles.

One of the ballast's are bad, the reason why I know this is because one light would not turn on. I swapped out the ballast with one of my old low beam ballast's and it worked.

The bulb started to smoke because it was touching plastic, it's got melted plastic on it but still works fine. (next problem was in effect befor this one)

The freaking HID's are stuck on high beams! I can not have them stuck on high beams, I have my driving test I have to take in this truck and I won't pass without low beams.

PLEASE HELP!

I can appreciate wanting to get a project done on a budget - but not at the expense of blinding others on the road.

A halogen reflector housing was engineered for halogen lights. They do make reflector housings engineered for HID's, but they are hard to find for generic applications.

A projector allows you to retrofit just about any vehicle for on-road/street use without blinding other drivers.

Since you advertise off-road use - then your solution is adequate and cost effective. If I install roof mount lights on my Raider, I probably will use a plug-n-play HID kit and stuff them in H4 housings, because I'll want the light to scatter like crazy to light up a wider area, and won't want to spend a lot of money for infrequently used lights.

Regular headlights - are used on a very regular basis, on public roads. So I wanted my lights to be VERY useful to me, and NOT annoying to other drivers.

My 6k HID lo/hi (all in one bulb) are stuck in high beams. The dash icon has a dimmed high beam, and when I flip high beams on they brighten up some. My lights are always stuck on high.

I just bought the 6k HID lo/hi, before I had 6k lo beams. One of the new ballast's do not work. So I'm using a ballast from my 6k lo beam.

The only difference of the two are the new ballast have 10a lin max. My 6k lo have a 5.5a lin max. Is this why my lights are stuck on high?

I have made sure I have good ground, and good connections. I also have after market headlight houseing's.

I have a question about hid. I recently bought a high and low set of hids for my truck. But do i need another pair? so i have hid high beams and hid low beams? I have a 1998.
