Nothing but headaches with ebay junk. I need links or something for quality reliable ballasts any size slim or regular big small free or expensive rusted or pink ones or purple ones i dont care i just want them to work!!!

I have heard nothing but bad things from our customers about "Xentec" and "One-X" brand ballasts, so I would stay away from those

DDM usually has pretty reliable kits, but their colors aren't the best

JD or JDM (forgot the name), their kits look extremely cheap, but from what I have heard they work pretty well.

In the past 2 years of using the kits that my company supplies, I have only had 3 bad bulbs from the factory, and have yet to come across a bad ballast

Scattered light = more light

If you compare a projector next to a halogen housing, the halogen housing with the HID conversion will cover a bigger area than a projector will

A 35w HID kit will be about 3X brighter than your stock halogen lights and a 55w HID kit will be around 5X brighter than your stock lights

im sorry, this information is wrong.

All aftermarket HID bulbs are not really at those ratings, nor are their ballasts at what they specify.

You can find this information at http://www.hidplanet.com A website dedicated not only for all things HID related, but also LEDs. You can also see a few Ford Ranger users if you search for "ford ranger." Here is one: http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/show...er-Valeo-Retro

for example, here is a comparison of all the aftermarket hid bulbs with their exact readings aswell as temperatures: http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/show...es)-Comparison

You don't have to have projectors to have HIDs. HIDs will be plenty bright without them. I have customers daily that I install HID kits in their stock housing. In all honestly, a stock housing might be better than a projector because your stock housing will scatter the light everywhere, instead of focused like a projector

Another personal opinion here, it's your vehicle
im sorry this information is extremely wrong. Projectors are required so you do not blind on coming traffic with glare from your lights. Not just any projectors, but HID projectors. That light scatter as you perfectly pointed out, will always blind on coming traffic.

Can reflectors have output like these below?

(taken from here: Source)

Or make your headlights emit white light, but appear blue at certain angles like vehicles from BMW, Mercedes, or from an Escalade? or have insanely bright and instant on hi beams?

(images take from here: )

If you want reliable ballasts (HID Kits), that truly output 35watts or 50watts of power, see here: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...roducts_id=170
Any MORIMOTO HID kit can be used for aftermarket bulbs (AMP connectors). All of their other products are OEM ballasts and OEM HID projectors, with the exception of their Plug-n-Play in-house designed Morimoto H1/D2S aftermarket HID projectors

Which "normal 55W halogen bulb" are you referring to? a 9005 puts out 1850 lumens ~14.4vDC.

Correct, you don't have to have projectors for HIDs. Many OEM vehicle have reflectors that were DESIGNED for the shape and optics of an HID bulb, they are D2R reflectors. The next sentence is wrong. A halogen reflector housing is NOT meant for HIDs. This will cause MASSIVE glare and blind people. The optics are skewed wrong.

Wrong. For someone that know everything about lights, I'm sure you've heard of Halogen Infrared Reflecting?

There isnt really such thing as a "best kit to use in a housing" all HID kits will primarily be the same (except for quality and colors differ between companies)
Aftermarket "drop-in" HIDs are ILLEGAL in ALL 50 STATES.

They aren't true high/low as a high/low halogen has two filaments. The high beam filament is the focal center of the optics, while the low beam filament is off center higher and to the left (so the beam is reflected lower and to the right). All a silly PnP HID like you guys have is pull the bulb back and forth. So basically you have a high/high but with screwed up optics.

OH. MY. GOD. What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

$50 ebay PnP "drop in" HIDs in a STOCK HALOGEN REFLECTOR:

true D2S projector:

You tell me, "Mr. HID" which one is better. Now I know what its like to be a young kid and think you know everything about lights, but since we shined a little light on you today (pun intended) there are A LOT more in the field of automotive lighting technology. Come over to www.hidplanet.com if you want to learn more. Protip: We don't like PnP kits. They are cheap and dangerous. Learn to use projectors if you want real HIDs.

Sure there are some facts in there, I am putting things in simple terms for people that want inexpensive HIDs and don't want to spend hundreds on projectors and D2S bulbs etc.

A lot of the information that guy gave with the multiple accounts if opinions as well

If you would like to inform people of HIDs, please make your own thread

Thank you

Hey it's me again. I bought new bi xenon kit hi lo 6k HIDs for my ranger off of ebay. I installed them (I'm replacing 6k HID low).

I had some troubles.

One of the ballast's are bad, the reason why I know this is because one light would not turn on. I swapped out the ballast with one of my old low beam ballast's and it worked.

The bulb started to smoke because it was touching plastic, it's got melted plastic on it but still works fine. (next problem was in effect befor this one)

The freaking HID's are stuck on high beams! I can not have them stuck on high beams, I have my driving test I have to take in this truck and I won't pass without low beams.

PLEASE HELP!

If you are referring to me, have an admin look at my IP address, and compared to the other "multiple accounts" it can be seen that my address does not match the others...

Anyways, here is another Ford Ranger with a HID retrofit: http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/show...ith-Projectors

Im going to quote a portion below...

Well I finally got the Money together and Got all the stuff I needed to do a Retrofit to my Ranger.

I Got the D2s Mini Morimoto Projectors. Philips 85122+ Bulbs. Morimoto 3FIVE 35W Ballasts. Gatling gun Shrouds. And 100mm CCFL Halos.

I am still waiting on the shrouds they are back ordered and they said they probably wouldnt have them in till This Friday Mar 4 and Nate @TRS said they will get them to me as soon as possible. By far the best mod I have done.

Sounds like you got jipped on another crappy eBay kit. What brand kit did you buy? I have heard way more bad things than good thins about eBay HID kits.

Are you sure all your wiring for the hi/ lo harness is done right, and your grounds are good?

I don't know if his cost $900 - but mine cost me a bit less than $450 all said and done, and maybe 10 hours of my time.

I can appreciate wanting to get a project done on a budget - but not at the expense of blinding others on the road.

A halogen reflector housing was engineered for halogen lights. They do make reflector housings engineered for HID's, but they are hard to find for generic applications.

A projector allows you to retrofit just about any vehicle for on-road/street use without blinding other drivers.

Since you advertise off-road use - then your solution is adequate and cost effective. If I install roof mount lights on my Raider, I probably will use a plug-n-play HID kit and stuff them in H4 housings, because I'll want the light to scatter like crazy to light up a wider area, and won't want to spend a lot of money for infrequently used lights.

Regular headlights - are used on a very regular basis, on public roads. So I wanted my lights to be VERY useful to me, and NOT annoying to other drivers.

My 6k HID lo/hi (all in one bulb) are stuck in high beams. The dash icon has a dimmed high beam, and when I flip high beams on they brighten up some. My lights are always stuck on high.

I just bought the 6k HID lo/hi, before I had 6k lo beams. One of the new ballast's do not work. So I'm using a ballast from my 6k lo beam.

The only difference of the two are the new ballast have 10a lin max. My 6k lo have a 5.5a lin max. Is this why my lights are stuck on high?

I have made sure I have good ground, and good connections. I also have after market headlight houseing's.
