I'm looking at the DDM raptor kit. i have a '97 but i want the 55 watt, high/low beam in either 10k or 12k. my questions are do i need anything else with the kit like the mounting brackets or the addaptor cables?

Or does anyone know if the 55 w will melt the headlight housing? I have heard of this happening on 90's mustangs

I'm not too familiar with the 97s so I can't help you too much, but I would definitely get the mounting brackets.

Also 10K lights would be ultra purple so you're not going to get much in the way of brightness.

I strongly recommend somewhere 5000k-8000k range. Anything higher than 8000k is ghey purple. It looks dumb (imo), it does not provide usefu lightl to actually see where you are going, and is extremely distracting and glare-producing to everyone else on the road. And if by chance you are an idiot and could care less about all that, you will get pulled over and ticketed for color-of-lights violations in short order.

3000k is yellowish (nice for fogs). 5000k is basically pure white and as bright and useful as you can get.. 8000k is white with a blue tinge to it. Many people here, myself included, use 6000k or somewhere in that neighborhood.

I have never heard of anyone here experiencing melted components with 55w kits, but most people here also use only 35w kits. Personally, I think you will find the 55w kits to be too bright for headlights. Even on low people, you may find yourself getting flashed by people your blinding. And when you drive past a cop, you'll be seeing more pretty colors like red and blue. You'll end up having to angle them down so much, it defeats the purpose and will just blind YOU.

Not to threadjack but I have a question also, I just bought the 8000k raptor kit with mounting brackets for the headlights, they easy to install right? And if I get silverstar ultras for my fogs will that be a good combo?

Yes. These kits are mostly plug-n-play now. The bulbs just go into the headlights like normal bulbs. The wires all connect up to the kit and will plug into the existing headlight wiring harness. There may be a primary power and ground wire for you to connect to the battery. I've never installed that kit so I'm not sure.

brett, the silverstar ultras will be fine for your fog lights as far as light output..

BUT, if you're wanting them to match its never a bad idea to get a matching hid kit for your foglights as well.

either way, it wont look good until you ditch the twankies.

Hahaha man the twankies, that made me lol man, thanks for that I don't necessarily wanna match I just don't want it to look dumb and I thought the fogs were suppose to be a couple thousand Kelvin less than the heads.

lol np. the fogs can be less, some will say that it provides better visibility in fog and some will argue that those people are full of shit. its more "to each his own" than anything else. my fogs match my headlights and i see just fine in the pea soup-iest of fog.

So your saying not to get the 10k in the 55w. A buddy of mine has them on his colorado in 35w and they look pretty much white to me. But your saying the 6-8k are brighter sight wise on the road? And what is the difference between 35w 6-8k and 55 w 6-8k?

here is my truck and his side by side. on top of a parking garage in detroit looking over into canada
