Pack, not packs 3.0, 4.0 & Duratec 2.3's have one pack, 2.3/2.5 Limas and V8's have 2.

Rule number one: Scanners help diagnose problems but the guy plugging it in and pushing the enter button is not necessarily a mechanic.

Since it's specific to a cylinder his next suggestion should have been to check that plug and wire and compression test or to have your fuel injectors tested/cleaned.
Rule number 2: I'm not a mechanic either.

I just noticed this is in the ext. tech section and the OP doesn't say which engine he has. If I were to guess, I'd say the 3.0 since they seem to be prone to misfire problems. BTW I had a misfire on #6 on my Taurus 2 years ago, I drove it around too much like that and ruined the cats, I'd get the misfire checked out ASAP as it will ruin your cats and they are NOT cheap!!

2001 Ford Ranger XL 6 cy 3.0 Flex fuel Changed spark plugs gaped at .044 new spark plug wires new coil pack new fuel filter. Was running missing a little Auto Zone code said it was #5 miss firing after changing plugs and wires still missing put in new coil pack still missing (check engine light on and then flashing) went to Auto Zone code said #2,4 and 5 miss firing made sure wires were correct they were not (found several different kinds of firing orders for the truck) after doing all of this it still does not start now at all. Auto Zone shows no codes at all every this show ok on the scanner. Any ideas what to do next.

CEL flashing is a cataylst damaging misfire. Meaning fuel is getting into the engine but no spark. Check secondary (spark plug, wire, coil) and primary (wiring to ECU). If you have a no start, check compression (does crank sound normal?) and make sure your firing order is 100% correct.

Sounds like you have the plug wires wrong. Double check with your manual. If I get home before this is resolved I will post it up for you.

still have the problem have changed the fuel filter put in the correct fuel filter, the gas pressure is 58 psi while trying to start the truck it should be 60 to 65 psi. the cracking does sound normal but will not start

The firing order I'm using is
coil pack
3-4
2-6
1-5
front of truck

Engine
3-6
2-5
1-4
front of truck

it will still start with 58 psi.
id check the firing order. im not sure about your truck, but typically plug #'s are stamped/ printed on coil packs, or on an underhood sticker.

That should be the correct firing order.
