Heated Mirrors
Have any of you guys done a changeout of the regular remote control mirrors for a heated mirrors, either with or withour the turn arrow in the mirror. Is there a photo set here somewhere that would walk me through it. Wanted to see how hard it was before I start chasing through salvage yards for a set.

Re: Heated Mirrors
I don't believe the explorer mirror even matches up.

Re: Heated Mirrors
I am def going to add heated mirrors on my truck in the future... been doing some research and doesn't seem that there is a direct bolt on replacement from a vehicle that offered heated mirrors and I like the look of my stocks so I'll probably just end up going with Muth. Expensive but nice... http://www.muthco.com/products/vehic...&submit=Search
Hopefully someone has another option?

The complete heater Explorer/Mountaineer mirror will not swap because of the shape of the triangular mount. However, there is another way.
2001.5 through 2005 Ranger power mirrors use the same type glass insert as the 2002 through 2005 Explorer heated power mirrors. Just pop them out, swap and route the 2 extra wires to the interior of the door and then through the accordion boot to the dash. Then there would need to be some way to control them. Some might use a simple on/off switch but I prefer a timed circuit like the factory uses.

Just rock the mirror to the full "UP" and "IN" position to expose a gap under the bottom.
Then insert a flat blade screwdriver in the rectangular opening under the plastic mirror base from the bottom. GENTLY twist the screwdriver to pop the glass carrier off. Takes about 15 seconds once you know how:
Here's what the inside of the housing looks like with the mirror popped off. Notice the two slots at 3 o'clock and 6 o'clock where the anti-vibration springs ride. (The passenger side only has one spring, not two):
Here is the back view of a heated Mountaineer mirror but the original Ranger mirrors and the signal mirrors look similar. You want to pry where shown, NOT at the other rectangular opening that you can see near the lower edge of the mirror:
When reassembling, be sure to line up the two anti-vibration springs in their slots. Then just use even pressure to snap the mirror back onto the adjustment platform in the housing.
