Default Another bed liner mod

I was at the local auto parts store the other day & they had Duplicolor spray on bed liner in a rattle can (also had it in larger quart size can to roll on). I grabbed a can to see how what I could do with it. It says it's got UV protection and can be painted too.

So far, I've prepped & painted the lower rocker panel area between the wheel wells including inside the door sills.
Instructions said to use a red scotch brite pad, but all I had were green... but it seems to have worked just fine. After scuffing the paint, I washed the residue off & wiped down with rubbing alcohol, let dry & wiped down with a dry towel.
I sprayed on 2 fairly thick coats and it covered everything completely.
A few minutes after the 2nd coat was on, I removed the masking tape so it wouldn't get stuck by the overspray & it left nice clean lines in the liner.

At first I didn't think it was going to cure solid (it was in the 50*s when I sprayed it on & it said it should be at least 65*, but I couldn't wait) After a day or so of curing, it's setting up pretty well and it's dark charcoal, almost black.

I'm debating on whether or not to go on up to the body line above the rocker panels all the way around, including the roll pan... I'm also thinking about scuffing the fender flares & coating them....if I go that far, I might think about spraying a few coats on the entire truck so I don't have to paint it.

Not sure if I'm even going to use it in the bed, I've got a rubber bed mat that keeps stuff from sliding around pretty well now.... although it wouldn't hurt to coat the tailgate.

If there's enough left in this can, I'm going to coat my receiver hitch & maybe even my accessories.

Has anyone else used the Duplicolor spray/roll bed liner?

I've seen a few other trucks with bed liner applied up to the body line, but I don't seem to remember seeing any black trucks done this way. Same for the fender flares... seems like I've seen a couple different color trucks with bed liner on the flares, but I don't remember any black trucks done this way.

If you've done the bed liner mod to your lower panels or flares, how do you like it? How's it holding up?

Feel free to pimp your truck's pics here

I'd also like to see it. I was thinking about doing my fender flares since they're all chipped up, and my rear bumper underneath the plastic with Duplicolor. My truck is also black. I just don't like the extra rough looking surface that most bedliners paints have. I'd like it textured but not that bumpy looking.

Post up some pics Buggman. Let us check it out..

Will do GB,
Mine doesn't have a deeply textured finish, it's more like a really thick, bubbly & pitted paint, or like undercoating.

It hides the little imperfections really well too. I had the normal amount of chips & roadkill especially on the under side of the rocker panels & inside the door sills & after the 2nd coat, they're completely gone.

It was a few bucks more than regular undercoating, so I probably won't use it on everything underneath.

I'll try to get some pics tomorrow... I was out in the garage late again tonight getting ready to wire up my auto dim mirror.

How long has yours been on? Any fading?

I'm really liking the way it turned out... not too rough, just a bit of texture.

The fender flares might be the next to get sprayed... then the front bumper... then who knows what else, maybe the bed rails & toolbox.

I used the rest of the can on the tailgate, but it needs another 1 or 2 more coats to get a little more protection.

I like the way that turned out Buggman! Just the texture I was looking for on my fender flares and possibly my rear bumper.

Thanks for the pics man..

I was kinda surprised. I thought it would be really deep/rough texture, but it's more like undercoating texture.

Hey man, just wondering how the duplicolor is holding up. Still looking good? I was just thinking of doing this to my flares since they're all chipped.

i must have gotten a bad can of it, the one time i used it to coat some ammo boxes, it looked nothing like the pics. it's now flaking off in multiple spots, feel like i took paint and threw sand on it when it was wet, and the damn can stopped spraying when it was 3/4 empty. what a waste.

It's holding up like a champ on the truck. No chips or peeling at all & the color hasn't faded that I can tell.

I sprayed some on a set of hella 500 rock covers & after a few weeks it started to flake off until eventually 95% of it all fell off or came off with a light touch. Tried sanding the plastic to give it a better bite, but that too fell off after a while.
Looks like it doesn't care for plastics at all

I'm thinking about doing my truck in bedliner too... that is if I can't find a good/affordable painter.
