Thumbs down Thoughts on toolbox...

I've searched around and I see that aluminum diamond plate tool boxes that have been painted or covered in bed-liner.
For example:Roll on liner a Tool Box?

But I need y'alls help. I'm debating on either doing one or the other, or selling it and buying a new one. I want a black one to go with my truck. So do I...

1) Paint toolbox black

2) DIY bed-liner black

3) Sell it and buy a new black one

4) Keep it the way it is

Also if anyone has any insight on costs of painting/putting on bed-liner that would be appreciated. Also time involved would be another issue. Thanks in advance for any comments/info.

clean it well, paint it with black self etching primer and then use this stuff:

http://www.fordrangerforum.com/exter...spray-too.html

http://users.zoominternet.net/~tptoo...r-bedliner.jpg
Buy HERE:

U-Pol Raptor EBAY

----------

so you are looking at about $120 to paint it with this bedliner. Also have you checked the prices of Black Toolboses, EXPENSIVE!!!!

IF/WHEN you do do it, make sure you take the handles out (they are just pop riveted in)

I do like that flush mount, but I was thinking if I got a new one, I'd just go low-profile. The only thing is, I use my toolbox for what it's used for, a toolbox lol. And I pretty much use almost every inch of the one I have now. I know if I go low-pro or flush mount I will loose some of my storage space, but I could cut back on some of the stuff I have in there.

most bedside mount tool boxes are not as deep as flush (I cant see yours), the flush sits on the bed floor, over all more cubic space

My box is about 2 inches about my bed, just enough room to fit a 2x4 underneath it. but it sits up about 3-4 inches of my bed rails. So I think it may be overall about the same cubic space, but I would have to do measuring and all to really know for sure.

the only problem is mounting chest style boxes, they are a pain to mount and usually involve chains or something

I was thinking about that, Idk if I want gloss or if I want a flatter black like the DIY bed liner stuff.

Like I have said before, a painted toolbox always looks like its been spray painted IMO. That's why I did the bedliner. If your gonna do the work make it different just don't skimp on the prep! I still love mine and it holds up way better than paint. I think it was actually cheaper too...

I like the high gloss just because it matched the truck better...at least when clean:

I know it's a Chevy, but same concept.

I hated the look of the chrome on my truck, so I painted it black with a rattlecan bedliner I found at Lowe's. I think it was like $11 a can, and it only took one full can to do everything but the bottom of the box.

Before:

After:

Chrome boxes suck. You CAN NOT keep them show room clean. I don't care how much you buff the shit out of them, they still will not be as awesome as they looked at the store. I would suggest using 3 coats on the box with this spray on stuff (took 1 can to do one full coat on mine, but I also have a much bigger box then yours is). Mine has been scratched up pretty good, and while it takes abuse, it won't be perfect if you do one coat. You can see in the last picture all the scratches in mine. Keep in mine that my bed is usually full of junk, and I don't just gently set my lumber in either. If you look under the KOBALT logo, you can see where I smashed my sledge into it, lol. Anger management helps
