Good idea or not? You decide.
Okay my truck has those ugly grey plastic bumpers. Not all of the front bumper is plastic. As most of you know the top part is metal. I was wondering would it be a good idea and would it look right if I painted them black? Here is a good pic.

If So- What is the best process to do this. Sand, prime, paint, or what. I know I am an idiot when it comes to painting.
Also, what type of paint should I use. Where can I get it?

Re: Good idea or not? You decide.
I have herculiner that I'm about to line my bed and toolbox with. Ithought about putting it on my bumper, but I never thought it would look that great.

Re: Good idea or not? You decide.
I have always been fond of the black/rhino lined bumper AND up to the first body line on the truck, kinda give it a black base. I don't think it would look right with just the bumper black.

Re: Good idea or not? You decide.
DO NOT paint the chrome part of the bumper... it looks good in chrome. However, you really should paint the valance (the gray part), they look much better when black.

Re: Good idea or not? You decide.
^ I want the whole bumper painted and both of them done. I just don't want anything as thick as bed liner that will stand out. Don't ask why, because IDK.

Re: Good idea or not? You decide.
ok well i am no paint expert but i would say that you should rough up the bumper and then prime it with a self etching primer, then use your paint of choice to paint it... krylon fusion is nice paint and i think flat black would look good

Re: Good idea or not? You decide.
Do it!! i did mine cause it was a few dif colors. i am very pleased with how it turned out. Check out the pics in my profile. i did everthing grill/ valance/bumper. flat black restoleum construction grade. i cleaned sanded cleaned then painted. still holdin up good. just do a few coats.
I removed all the parts before paint/prep. made things a lot easier.

Re: Good idea or not? You decide.
I painted the bottom plastic grey valance on mine from grey to black. I also painted the top step of the rear bumper
Buy a can of wax remover from autozone, wipe down the plastic with it, use krylon fusion spray paint or i used something called "auto trim paint"

Re: Good idea or not? You decide.
Bumper appears to be off a newer model, I'd say paint the steel part to match the body, and the valance black ..... or both + rear bumper silver to match body

Re: Good idea or not? You decide.
Just some advice, herculine/rhino line is hard to clean. Yeah it would look awesome if you did the bumper. My friend did his entire jeep in rhino lining and it looks awesome but it is very hard to get dirt or smudges out of it, if you can get it out at all.
