So I just put new drums on, adjusted the shoes to fit just right and the sound is still there. It is definitely the drums too. Maybe it has something to do with the back of the winter wheels I have on. They are Ranger wheels. but off of an older truck.

Drums do not look good to me, the bolt holes seem oblong or wobbled out. Noise has to be suspension if it makes noise when setting still and rocked. Brakes would make a noise when being applied or wheels were turning.

Sometimes the answer is RIGHT if front of you, but you don't connect the dots for whatever reason. Tonight I was explaining this issue to my future father in law who is an ex mechanic and he says, your hubs aren't fitting over the axle and not butting up to the drums like they should. Ding ding ding, this makes sense, and the only reason I never gave it a thought is because the rims I have on are off a Ranger, only older. So I guess I either have to ditch the wheels or break out a die grinder. Was anyone aware that the hub size changed between years? I have no clue what year my winter wheels are, but I would guess somewhere around 90-94.

rich if you were closer id offer to machine the hub centers for you. that sucks, i suspected something was up after seeing the egged out brake drum holes but never thought that the hub was too small. glad yoy figured it out.

Yea I was surprised, and I never knew Ford changed the sizes. I guess not too many people were retro fitting old wheels onto newer Rangers.
