Default Truck got broken into..

Any suggestions on this?

My buddy and I Stopped in for a beer at bar this weekend. 20 minutes later we come out and I'm cleaned out. What really sucks (other than my stereo and sub gone) is the way they broke into my truck. Those punks popped the whole cylinder out. Not a very good job because its all dented in around the cylinder hole. its hard to tell from the pic, but its really messed up and bored out. The hole is now too big to just replace it with a new cylinder, besides, it would look crappy as heck. There are dents all around the hole (cant really tell from pics).

My question is...
Do I go to the junkyard and replace the whole door with a door from a white ranger, or do I let my insurance take care of it and have it done professionally?. I have a deductible of $500, so I would need to pony up $500 just to get the ball rolling...

Insurance time. And a very good reason not to keep stuff in your vehicle

That right there is why I drive a 16 YO truck & do not lock it & NEVER keep anything of value in it when I am not in it.

Unfortunately, Rangers are among the easiest vehicles ever built to break into.

A quick look at YouTube will show you just how easy it is. A toolbox in the bed is far safer for storing your valuables. Even that isn't a perfect answer.

.

Anyways, I just asked people for advice on the fix. So, the consensus is..take a suitcase so I can load my sub, amp, and non-detachable stereo and pack it everywhere I go. It's not like a left money in plain view.

I don't think people read the entire post. lol.

You can try to find a junkyard door, but more than likely they're all scratched up and not in good shape. You would probably have to have the junkyard door repainted, which isn't exactly cheap.

Sucks that they wiped you out man.

I think the consensus is to file a claim and move on.
Did you call the cops and at least tell them when, where and what happened?
Nowadays there are cameras everywhere, did you check with the bar or surrounding business, or maybe there was a witness?

X2...Too bad your truck looks in real nice shape.
Do you have receipts of the stereo amp and sub...you claim all that as well.

Does anyone know a way to make the door less easy to break into?

My lock cylinders are kinda loose to begin with and I'd rather not have the experience. Can they be tightened somehow? I never looked at that part of the inner door workings back when I swapped interior door panels.

A "Jimmi Jammer" kit is about all I've ever heard for a Ranger.

It isn't the cylinders that make breaking in easy.

If you raise the door handles, the interior linkage is easily accessible through the holes the handle linkage pass through.

I would also like to know of a way to make my truck less vulnerable.

I apologize for nudging this thread in a different direction.

Keep valuables out of sight. If they want in, they will get in.

Pay the deductible, it's only $500. And if you had your stereo making lots of loud noise as you drove down the road and in the parking lot at the bar, then you quite possibly made it much easier for the thieves to know what vehicle to simply walk up to and break into. Learn from this mistake.

Suggestion: superglue some double sided razor blades onto your next deck. The though of thieves slicing their fingers down to the bone is most delightful.
