I don't understand how it could get stuck on there with the plastic hinge insert. Anyone take the tailgate to a body shop to have them repair it? I have the flareside bed and a new replacement tailgate on lmctruck.com is about $200 plus a oversize fee. Wish I had the more common styleside bed the tailgate is half the cost. Plus you figure you have to have it painted. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.
That tailsgate should just pull right off when you have it at about 3/4 open. Slide it to one side then try it. I replaced my tailgate as well due to rot underneath. It was a pain trying to find a used one. It took me about 4 months to find one and I did it Kansas, the guy had it on ebay and I got it for 100.00. It needed light body work, I did that myself and had a body shop paint it. Watch out for the aftermarket ones, They are kinda flimsy and can't hold weight like OEM ones can.
