Default tailgate questions

my tailgate has a decent sized dent (decent as in looks like the previous owner backed into a light pole) that i cannot figure out how to fix, it is right over the hollow spot, and when i pushed it out, as soon as any pressure is applied it pushes back in.

the three questions
any ideas how to fix it?
would it be easier/more cost or time efficient to replace it?
should i just ditch the tailgate and get a tailgate net?

You can try LMC, Partstrain.com, autoanything.com, umm junkyards or you can use a hammer and dolly and try your hand at body work.

already tried the body work approach, cracked the paint a bit, decided the easiest way to keep it out would be to fill the entire tailgate body with great stuff foam, not a cheap solution, and money is for sure a limiter, would like to get a new one from a yard, but would have to strip and repaint, and my truck is a very strange color, course, if i could find my paint code(take it from the vin, beyond my knowledge) i could have a guy at work mix some up for me, but im not the greatest painter either

Your paint code is on the door jam of the drivers side door. Dont fill it with any foam crap either take it and have the shop smack the dent out and spray it or go get another tailgate and have them spray it. If you fill your gate your going to regret it later.

You said you already cracked the paint...So repainting is in your future no matter the route...I say frequent JY's till you find a good deal.

some time dents dnt cooperate, and you chase the across the panel, best bet is buy a used gate

any dent will stretch the metal. (Even a door ding) Once dented it will work like the bottom of an oil can. Only way is to pop out what/if you can or cut and weld back then sand and fill. Better option is to replace with a non dented tail gate and

I would contact a local paintless dent repair company and have them look at it. They wont be able to fix your paint but id be willing to bet they could get the dent out and make it look alot better than it does now.

A good shop should be able to scan it anyways. I would let them worry about finding it if you don't know how to spray.
